I'm a creative technical sort of person, which has led me into photography as well as music recording, production and performance.

I'm really getting into landscapes, working on planning for the right light, getting foreground interest, exposure and composition.

I like creating gentle B&W portraits. I experiment with 'strobist' style off-camera flash.

I shoot film - 35mm, 6x6 120 (medium format) and 4 x 5 inch (large format). I never made the transition to digital, partly due to Minolta lagging behind (my 35mm is a Minolta) and partly because of the affordability of medium and large format film cameras (proper pro stuff for the price of a digital compact). I don't take hundreds of photos at one time, I like to take time and care over each shot, so film suits me. I could not afford the huge capital outlay required for a digital camera that would give similar quality to the film cameras I have.

I do process my own film. I print B&W traditionally and I develop and scan colour negative film. It is very rewarding to do film photography without relying on a lab!

Hitesh - delete me this is an old account says:

"I added Mattneighbour after meeting him at the first UK wide flickrmeet at York, and then met him again in Nottingham for another random flickrmeet. He's a great guy with some deep knowledge into the analogue side of photography. In fact, whenever I see someone doing something semi-interesting with film I tell them, "you'll end up like mattneighbour" (Who? they say...) then I look at matt's flickrstream and rethink that again and take it back. They can't even hold a candle to the man!"

    Andrew Dyer says:

"As well as being a good friend, Matt is also a great source of ideas and constructive criticism. His influence is certainly behind all of what I consider to be my better photos since I have got to know him. The particular skill he has, which impresses me the most, is his ability to see a great photo in a scene that I will often fail to see anything of particular interest. His compositions are also technically outstanding and it is from him I have learnt most of what I know about this important aspect of photography."
