I've been snapping photos of flowers, landscapes, architecture and wildlife since the early 1990's when my wife and I inherited a Nikon N2000 Manual SLR with a couple of lenses. In 2001, we went digital with a Nikon Coolpix 990 - we both liked the rotating body and its sweet spot for great macro shots. Lots of flower pix in the albums because of that camera. In 2007, after missing the "process" of peering through a wee window to compose my shots, I got a Nikon D80 and the "one lens does it all" Nikon 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 VR lens. So far, this glass has not disappointed.

I shoot almost always handheld, though if the occasion is right and I am in a safari mood, I'll kit up with a monopod or a tripod.

The D80 has helped me do two things better than before: take half-decent shots of critters such as birds and fill up at least one hard drive (working on my second drive) with shots I could not possibly delete.

In May, 2008 I purchased a P&S Nikon Coolpix S600 to carry with me when the D80 would be too cumbersome. So far so good.

Favourite shooting grounds in Southern BC:

Stanley Park (Vancouver)
VanDusen Gardens (Vancouver)
West End and Downtown (Vancouver)
Beacon Hill Park (Victoria)
Goldstream Provincial Park (near Victoria)
Pacific Rim National Park (between Tofino and Ucluelet)
Reifel Bird Sanctuary (Delta)
Sunny trips on a BC Ferry (various)
