I'm new to photography, and had never used a DSLR until October 2008. I never intended, EVER, to take up photography until my good friend and flickchickLyanne Wylde made me do it...well, one snap and I was hooked. Overnight I went from happy P&S snapper to unhappy/frustrated/how the HELL does this work work DSLR snapper. I stole my husband's D70 and he immediately resigned as family photographer on the basis that resistance is futile 'n' all that.

Since then I've gone from mediocrity to mediocrity. I'm happy with that. But along the way I've made a lot of friends and taken 10,000 average photos. And my children now roll their eyes when they see me coming with a camera. Although the 2 year old now grabs the camera off me and has a worryingly good eye. Am I to be usurped by my offspring before they can even string sentences together? Sheeesh.

So...I have a D70, a kit lens, a Tokina 11-16 jobbie, a Nikon 1.4 AF-S, a Nikon 18-200 VR thingy. And an ancient Nikon flashlight that I can't work so I don't ever shoot unless I can use natural light. I have a Lensbaby Composer on the way, but don't tell my husband.

I also have a Holga camera, which alarms me.

I'm doing a 365 project, and trying hard not to fill it with photos of my two children. But it's tough, they are 3 and 2 and are THERE all the time and they dominate my day and my life. Also, I live on a farm...so there's a lot of wholesome goodness in my photostream. My excuse is that I only moved to The Country very recently; until January 09 I lived in a very gritty and urban place where shootings and stabbings were du jour. So I'm still giddy with the joy of not fearing for my life on a daily basis.

I'm knocking on 40, live in Suffolk, UK and work (but only when I have to) in London City.

I'm a Nikon gal. We're the best ;-)

"Spud is one of my all time favourite HPADers. Her 30 secrets set are making me laugh out loud every day.

She has well and truly embraced the HPAD project and providing some amazing shots. It's always a delight to see her two gorgeous boys and gain an insight to her life.

In her stream is a healthy injection of talent, beauty, comedy and honesty! More more more please Mrs Spud!"

"Spud hit HPAD like a freight train and made a massive impact with her humorous, well composed and technically wonderful shots. Her personality and quirkiness are often plainly evident, but what is perhaps most striking is her adoration for her lovely family and her affection for her friends. She wears her heart on her sleeve and presents it in her photos, and that's what makes her photostream such a joy to behold."

"*spud*'s photos are a pleasure to view. Full of fun, and the most photogenic children around. She's also generous with her time to view and comment, and liberal with praise. And I'm completely envious of her house! (Not so much the Volvo though!)."

"After spending the first 9 months of 2008 declaring herself to be a 'happy snapper' at best, Spud has at least joined HPAD and has proven herself to be a natural, with an ability to turn the everyday into works of art. Her photos show her sense of humour, and her photos of her children are gorgeous!"

"Ah well what can i say about Spud? A latecomer to HPAD but an ace photographer and mother of two of the most gorgeous and photogenic boys i have ever seen!

I am especially impressed with her use of macro and depth of field shots. She has also inspired me to get some brightly coloured card to shoot against.

Looking forward to seeing what the rest of 2008 and 2009 brings from her!"
