I work too much.

I worry too much.

Work keeps me from worrying too much, unless of course I am worrying about work.

I'm a perfectionist - it really bothers me that there is no way to right-justify this paragraph.

When I was younger I kept wishing for the creativity thing to come forth. It was kind of like wishing for breasts. (The idea was there, but it / they just never got fully developed.) As I got older I thought that maybe peyote was the answer (to creativity - silly, not breasts). I was convinced that everyone had the ability to be creative, but just like the shaman, only a few very special people knew how to get there - you know, to that special place in your mind where creativity exists. I thought that perhaps peyote would allow me to access that part of my brain that was somehow blocked.

I bought drawing pencils, special papers, tried my hand at stained glass, chalk, oil paint, watercolors, you name it and I tried it. Nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not a dunce and I do have some talents. I won a National Spelling Bee when I was 14. I can spell just about any word you put before me, give the definition of it and use it in a sentence. I was a published author at 23. Yet, despite all the recognition, I still pined for the other talent, for the unmasking of my elusive draw / paint / sculpt gene. I coudn't find any peyote, so I was out of luck.

Then suddenly, along came a camera and photo editing software and my world suddenly changed. What I could not draw or paint I could take a photo of. If I wanted to, I could alter it to be what I had in my mind all along. Or...the best part of all - I could just experiment until I found something that made me happy.

So here I am.

This place makes me happy. The whole process gets me out of the house and into the sun, it takes me away from my office, makes me forget to worry about work and allows me to be creative and - I get all of that without peyote. It's also a wonderful learning experience, for there are so many talented, creative and kind people here. What more can a girl ask for?

"Mia is a photographer who see's the world through her own lens. She has intrigued me with her artistic views of the East Coast, which are always a special treat, having never been there myself.
Mia has taken me on many a visual adventure through her world and each and every time I have enjoyed the trip tremendously. I love her views of the ocean when it is peaceful with boats resting in the harbor and sunsets that are nothing but breathtaking. To the raging waves at hurricane strength that rise and fall with a vengeance, Mia is always there to capture it all.
    THE GIRL HAS NO FEAR!
I often wonder how she endures the elements to achieve these awe inspiring shots.

Mia's range of photographic imagery is vast! When I first came to know her I was mesmerized by her fantastic insect macro's. I could not be pulled away from each new creature who had been captured by her amazing eye for detail. Mia LOVES insects like no one else and this is shown in an extremely artistic fashion. She focuses in on the beauty few see in a spider resting inside its elaborate web to a fly or mosquito sitting on her hand. I think Mia could be described as the "insect whisperer" because she has a magical way with every insect who wanders in front of her lens.

Let me not forget the wonderful bird captures Mia has collected from pigeons, seagulls, ducks the list goes on and on. I can't stop here because I would be amiss not to mention her captivating assateague wild ponie series.
Mia is one of a kind in the world of digital photograhy. I guess my best advice would be to make a visit to her photostream. You will be amazed at her range of work.

One of the things I enjoy most about Mia is her wonderful sense of humor. She makes me smile as soon as I see her buddy icon show up on my recent post. I know Mia is going to have a comment that is not only informative but humorous at the same time. She can always make a gloomy day sunny!
I have enjoyed our virtual lunch dates sharing a hot bowl of soup with some flavored Gateoraide. And maybe just maybe a cookie for dessert.

I can't leave without one more note: Mia has become extra artsy recently moving her already interesting and beautiful imagery into the world of pure ART! Adding amazing techniques to push her work into a new fascinating direction!!
By the way she won't share with me - ghostbones - lol...
THANKS MIA, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!"

Her work is absolutely breathtaking! She IS a creative and artistic photographer! She has that "eye'" for beauty that cannot be learned -it resided in her soul!
Flickr has been a beautiful experience for me. I think the people are as much fun as the artistic play! I'm so glad to have Mia as a friend!
You make my day with your clever comments,Mia!
    Thanks,
