Wonderland 'The Queen's Armada'

If you would like to buy my work, or contact me directly please visit my website www.kirstymitchellphotography.com
My work is available as gallery limited edition prints (sold privately) as well as standard prints.(Like art posters) which are available for direct sale from my online shop.
All the costumes, props and sets for the Wonderland series were made by myself, I write a diary (blog) which includes all the behind the scenes photos and stories of how the pictures were created which can be found on my website too. Wonderland is not faked in photoshop, everything is real, made by hand, and shot in real locations. They are not composite images, I spend months working on their creation and treat them like paintings, they are an enormous amount of work and are extremely precious to me.
You can read more about Wonderland here - www.kirstymitchellphotography.com/aboutgal.php?id=5

I'm also starting to make behind the scenes videos you can see them here - vimeo.com/user9839434

There are a number of interview links on my website 'about' page too if you would like to read further about the project.

Please also note that ALL MY IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHTED and are not allowed to be reproduced without my permission. This means it is illegal to use them unless I have given consent. This is beginning to happen a lot, and these pictures are an enormous amount of work for me, please respect that, thank you :) x

Bloggers - my flickr is set to allow pictures to be used for blogs, you don't need to ask me for permission, but please drop me a line to say you used the pictures and credit them.
Thanks :)

    Playland Photography says:

"The best part of her work is that it is 100% original. It really is an inspiration to me because every time I see her work I see how much she has put into it and I always feel I could do more with my own work. Her use of color is truly incredible and the small details that never go overlooked are amazing. She really has an amazing talent and deserves everything she gets. I cant wait to see the rest of the Wonderland series and whatever comes next!"

"One of the most promising and talented photographers/artists from this century. It's amazing how she creates those beautiful images, how she creates perfection, using reality only. Speechless, breathtaking.
I might say she's the max inspiration for me, and i bet i'm not the only one."

"Here is an artist that goes above and beyond. While most of us photographers just grab the camera and walk out the door with a dress and a single prop in our hands, Kristy builds new worlds with her bare hands and spends months planning and orchestrating these elaborate, captivating pieces! Her artistry is not just in executing a photograph, but building scenes, props, headpieces, dresses, the works! Her models stand on stilts in the snow with smoke bombs... Few artists can reach this pinnacle of creative license!

At first glance of her stream, I knew I was in love. She is one of my favorite photographers and I love her work."

"I have admired your work for quite a long time here on flickr, always valued it as to a very high standard and the creative style is just what I adore about photography and creativity. After modelling for you twice I am just blown away by the effort, passion and drive you have to creatve the imaginable, but what could possibly be impossible, for me anyways. You showed me ways around that and it's inspired me so much to just go out there and DO IT!

"Kirsty Mitchell's portraits are both shocking and overwhelmingly endearing. As if each image is a porous entity that breathes and speaks and walks and sleeps. All within a beautiful convolution that binds chaos and invention. Her work is honest and pure.
    And completely necessary."

"My testimonials are few and far between. Reserved for the right timing, a moment when much has been achieved but the prospect of whats to come is all the more exciting.Through tough times and happy times her work reflects her moods her eye and her feelings. She captures whimsy and grit with aplomb and engages those around her in the intimacy of her world. It's this bearing of the being and the skill to which she creates photographic form that keeps me interested in her work.

Fairies in trees or grannies in gutters, Spud runs riot with imagination and skill.

    Glad i met you Spud!.."

    Gavin Murphy says:

"She is an inspiration to me, in not only how accessible her work is but how she takes the time to be open about her passion.

Seeing the same streets I walk myself everyday captured in such an honest, brilliant way really does strive me to practice and become better.

PS - One bit I forgot to add was you would be hard pushed to find someone who takes so much time to leave comments on people's images, who finds the time to not only share her passion, but also help others with kind words.

Never sycophantic or over the top they all come from a genuine appreciation of other peoples work - something which I have found extremely rare in my life. Talented and humble aswell as generous and objective."

"Every once in a while, someone comes along whose work somehow engages you above and beyond most. Kirsty has created some incredible photographs that stay in mind long after they have gone. To keep thinking and wondering. I wonder of her perfect execution in her derelict series, how she must have felt seeing this place for the first time, composing the shots with everything in mind, the light, texture, composition and equally as important, her serene posture. Remarkable."

"If we could ever dive deep into this kindred spirit we would find a small robust flavored engine churning deeper, mindful thoughts like butter day in day out. The mindfulness being methodically produced by this engine is showing up piece by little piece in her photographic images. Her knack for producing pin sharp black and white photographs leads me to believe she quietly caresses in her clutches a waxing snowball of unadulterated talent which she can throw anytime she feels necessary. Throw a couple more snowballs for your fans but not at us."
