Australia was completely cut off from the rest of the world for many many centuries and the indigenous peoples that lived there were never forced to develop as those people who lived in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Around 1788 the first Europeans settled in Australia and these people represented the most advanced civilisation on the planet at that time and when they moved into the ancient land of Australia they collided right into one of the most undeveloped peoples left on the planet.
These Indigenous Australian peoples were not underdeveloped because, as some scientists at that time believed because their inability to change and develope but actually was due only to their isolation for such an extended period of time.
Anyone who has had the privileged to know any of the ancestors of these original ancient peoples would be struck by their immense ability to adapt and evolve into 21st Century modern citizens in only 200 years under the most oppressed conditions you could imagine.
As an artist my heart is totally consumed by the beauty of this Australian land and all that has grown out of its profound spirit. I find the unique vegetation just as profound as these ancient peoples and packed filled with hidden treasures for anyone who wants to take the time to look, feel and listen to their stories.
Still to this day there are very few people living in Australia who have stopped long enough to look, feel and listen to the stories of this ancient and sacred land let alone look, feel and listen to the stories of the unique people and plants and animals that have grown out of its spirit.
All of my artwork is to reflect those unique stories I find hidden within the unique vegetation growing in the last remnant forests that have grown out of this ancient and sacred land called Australia.
As the original people here in Australia never evolved from being hunters and gathers their unique plants were never explored for their properties such as fibre or dying purposes as the vegetation was in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
My artistic vision is to start where the Ancient peoples of Australia were forced into the 19th Century and attempt to discover and explore what was hidden within the vegetation that is still growing out of this ancient sacred land that is now called Australia.
In such places as Europe, the Middle East and Asia their unique Indigenous people had thousands of centuries to explore and hunt out what treasures lay hidden within their lands unique plants growing in each place but this has not been the case here in Australia.
Just imagine if Asia did not have the bamboo or if the Middle East did not have pampas grass or Europe had no Oak or Willow trees. It is the unique vegetation that has played critical roles in the developments of all civilisations around the globe that modern peoples have no idea about.
Here in Australia they simply remove all original unique vegetation as if it was rubbish. The culture that evolved in the Australian communities since the European settlers first arrived has been to remove all the native plants and animals out of the way so they can dig up the land for its mineral wealth or plant their plants they have brought with them from other environments not at all like what evolved here for so very long before their arrival.

"Terri is one of my oldest Flickr friends and in 2008 I was lucky to meet her twice, once in Fremantle and once in Barwon Heads.
A trip through Terri's photostream is a journey on so many levels that the mind boggles: physical beauty, mental challenges, spiritual insights and emotional hurdles.
Mostly though it is her love of country which awes me. A powerful lady wose work must be visited and revisited.
Bless you Terri."16th February, 2009
