I take photographs because I need to remain sane...that and it makes me happy to make people happy...we were all put on this earth to enjoy each others company...I enjoy people, no matter who you are.
I remember the first time my Father developed an image in our home darkroom. I looked down into the chemicals and watched the image appear from a blank sheet of white...I've been hooked ever since.
I will shoot anything and everything; there is no job too small and no job too big. I have been hired to shoot images of ice breakers at the north pole, threads on machinery components, and everything in between - weddings, engagements, families, babies, vehicles, business people.....you name it.
I constantly try to develop my skills by reading anything and everything I can get my hands on that relates to the subject of photography...and I LOVE talking to people about it. If you ask me about something relating to the subject, be prepared for a long conversation....
I shoot with Nikon cameras and develop(process) on Apple computers...
Fancy cameras and computers don't make great photographs though...you and I do!
Here are some of the places I've been in my travels:

"I'm blessed enough to call this guy my husband...my best friend...and the father of my children. He's so incredibly talented, and I hope that I am be supportive, encouraging, and nurturing of his talent. I see the joy, happiness, and peace that photography brings him, and I truly feel that Doug has found his calling, his passion, his true talent. I've also seen the joy that his photography brings to others, including our family. We have so much fun going on photography road trips with you, seeing the country and our own back yard. I love all of his photos, but his photos of our children, family, and friends have a special place in my heart.
Keep going, Doug...I know you'll go far! And I'm so glad to go on this journey with you!"29th September, 2009

"I don't know where I've been while you've been getting so good!!! I must say - what an impressive stream. Too many images to comment on, so testimonial instead.
I can see that you're a cheff - rather cooking with light than just pushing a button. I like how you use the elements together, like ingredients in a sophisticated recipe - some times simple, somtimes more complex, but always superbly executed to suit the subject!
Great work - keep it - you inspire!!!"25th May, 2009

Jeff Engelhardt says:
"Doug is a close friend and a great teacher. One of the first things I found on his stream was a tutorial, and that was merely the start of my education. Doug has tremendous knowledge of photography - which should be obvious from his imagery - and is always so sharing with information and techniques to help the rest of us develop as well. As a result of his generosity, we've ended up shooting together a number of time and now I am proud to call him a friend."

"Many people might claim that this person or that person is the nicest person on Flickr, etc. etc. But Doug really is. And he’s one of the best photographers and post-processing artists as well. Just check out his stream. His images are top-notch and many of them offer a small glimpse into his family life as well. From these it’s very clear that Doug is a great husband and father too. He is also one of a handful of folks on Flickr whose HDR skills are worthy of attempted emulation. Keep the good stuff coming, Doug!"

"Doug is a true professional in every sense of the word. From the very first evening I met him, I have been blown away by his talent and knowledge. I was so fortunate to have him share some of his knowledge with me when he was around. He helped me tremendously learn more about my camera and how to effectively use it. He is a great friend, and I can't recall every seeing him mad...even when most people are at their wit's end. He holds it all together.
Keep blowing us away with the jaw-dropping photos Doug. There is nothing I look forward to more, than the day he and I take some landscape photos with our D300's, standing side by side again. Sort of like that night at the Sheffield Lake park. I dunno, there was something really special about that night that I'll never forget!"11th August, 2008

Extra Medium says:
"Doug was the crowd favorite to win the tournament, and be the 1979 King of the Ring for the Male Mudwrestling Association's season finale in Tempe (sponsored by Round Up). He breezed through the first 15 rounds and only had one pair of briefs rip. I was the underdog that year, but only because I was accused of shaving my chest and had 45 points taken away. Never meeting him in person, Doug seemed like a nice guy at least from the billboards and Coors Lite ads he had done. But in that muddy pentagon, he was all animal. To say I was intimidated would be putting it mildly, but I was unaware of my own emotions since the roar of the crowd was so deafening in that arena. Doug was wearing his trademark purple and gold shorts, and I had on my starched white shorts, so short that it would make Magic Johnson circa 1982 jealous. Next thing I know, the start bell rung and.... nothing happened. We glared at each other and instead of the no-holds-bar mud wrestling extravaganza people in the audience and on pay-per-view were expecting, we simply walked towards each other and instantly talked about our experiences using film, and how different opinions regarding the use of technology in the process of developing film and printing has not changed since the early years of pinhole cameras. We must have talked for a good 45 minutes while people booed, tv cameras left, and the Goodyear blimp simply blew away. I suppose we dissappointed several million people that day, but in it's place, I met a really cool guy. His name is Doug."
