"Is a mountain high because we measure it so or does it's character come from within to awe us?
Gps1. You can ask Gurpreet Singh what that means!
I know little to nothing about Gps1 personally but the impact of our contact is nonetheless very personal to me.
I had just finished reading Salmon Rushdie's Clown of Shalimar about a character from the region of Ladakh and Srinigar in Kasmir.
Having never seen the landscape of this area the pictures Gurpreet posted drove home the atmoshphere and starkness of the book in a way that my imagination had failed to do.
I was humbled in my error and even more in awe of Mr Rushdie's work after seeing the photo stream of the area.
For many reasons India and Kashmir have figured prominently in my life and I have felt so much a joyous and wonderful appreciation of that great land through the eyes of Gurpreet and his lens.
To an inexperienced American like me Gurpreet's photo stream is like a tour through the very best of National Geographic with all the detail and intimacy of a seasoned traveler sending back all the best shots of texture, color, grandeur, and human condition.
Gurpreet too, like all of my contacts, has been loyal and faithful commentor and companion on the road through the last year and more.
His comments are astute and friendly and I always look forward to seeing his pictures and comments on my screen.
I look forward to many more adventures and insights thanks to the presence of Gurpreet Singh on the Flickr pages.
Written for Sala de Luna Group."

"Gurpreet Singh shows us India. He shows us Sadhus monks, lines of goats, hookah smokers, boats on Dal Lake and Bhimtal, exquisite children, street vendors, laborers up at dawn, arresting faces, the deepest blue skies, the mountains and waters of heaven itself. He has a love of true color, and a master's understanding of composition and space. His images seem so effortlessly assembled, his subjects so comfortable, that they become familiar, a neighborhood in which we somehow sit, into which we have been welcomed. The ability to give us this sense seems a holy gift, nothing less than miraculous, a talent bestowed on only a few. It is the magic that makes the world our home."
