Born in Cambodia, I'm always fascinated by the art and architecture achievements from the country's glorious past, especially the Khmer Classical Dance. While I occasionally take casual portraits, my most favorite subject is the Khmer classical dance. This dance is rooted deep in the Khmer religion, tradition, monarchy and identity of the people for at least the last 2000 years. For those who are unfamiliar with this dance, you will find that both male and female roles are performed by females with some exceptions as monkeys or ascetics. This is the traditional way. For my work, I prefer to get the shots during live performance and try to capture the feel, imagery and presence that these artists invoke in my mind. Since flash is usually prohibited during the show, I make do with available stage light. Unless indicated, these dancers portraits were taken without posed or staged.

Thanks for your interest.
