I spend most of my day working for Innosight Asia, where I design new business ventures for various Asian companies. I've been building totally unrelated, silly concepts in Google Sketchup as a sort of morning wake-up exercise. These are really mash-up images composed of content created by others (including some superstars like Moom) and retrieved from the Google 3D warehouse. I can usually get 2-3 done in the hour before my day starts: a bit of an alternative to surfing the web. The images reflect little or no skill on my part. That interests me just a bit. Sketchup and similar tools are now allowing any goofball (including me) to visualize whatever silly concept comes to mind. Pokono is already starting to enable fabrication. It will be interesting to see where these two trends lead. It probably won't be a rehash of the desktop publishing revolution.
