In painting, it is not different as it is in life. The action is happening, and after some time the action stops, giving space for a new action to come (i.e. a new canvas to paint).
Our lives are a continuous flow of actions taking place.
Best thing for my is not trying to explain these actions or their contents.
But my struggle with this statement makes sense to me, and is obvious in the paintings.

Composition is prior to colour. Colour is rather subjective, whereas composition is either in balance or not. You might not like a drawing or painting because of the colour(s) used, but admit that the composition is correct.
Composition creates the work.
