In this impermanent world, does not a photograph give to things, or the fleeting moment itself, at least a bit of permanence?

I'm a mathematical physicist.

I've seen a lot of fantastic photos on Flickr and try to improve my own....
Since I was captivated by photography, my visual life has become much more intense.
I especially enjoy pictures of nature, landscapes, and architecture. I would love to do wildlife photos myself, but presently I have neither the equipment nor the opportunity.
I end up doing a lot of landscapes and cityscapes. I also like to do macro shots. In a macro you see more clearly how things are made than with the naked eye.
Even though I do appreciate a good HDR or other processing, my own approach is more on the documentary side. I do post-process my photos, but I abstain from the heavy stuff.

I love to travel to see and photograph new places. Yet every country has so many beautiful spots that it seems impossible to do proper justice to any of them.

I am German, grew up in Switzerland, and am married to an Italian. After getting my degree, I have lived in Berlin, Munich and Amsterdam. In September 2008, my husband and I moved to Japan. We had a wonderful and exciting three years there (see our blog)! Since Oct. 2011, we live in Geneva.

My job and my spread out family situation force/allow me to travel a lot and I take my Nikon D90 along wherever I go. Apart from my Nikon 24-85mm lens (which has a great macro setting), I own a Tokina 12-24mm (one of my best buys ever), a Tokina 85-130mm, and a Tokina 100mm macro lens. For everyday use, I carry a Canon IXUS (because one always has to go prepared).
