I first became interested in railways at the age of 4 or 5 (1961/1962), when I was hoisted screaming up into the cab of a steam loco at Brighton Station by my father. About fifteen minutes later, I was dragged screaming OFF the cab of said loco. "You don't REALLY want to go to Steyning, do you??" No matter...I was hooked and that was it. My first trips un-escorted, were to London and Portsmouth from 1968. Once I left School in 1972 and the Pay Packets started arriving, I was OFF....any excuse and I was away. The best years of my life, were 1972-1974; the music, the rail scene, the crumpet............... Due to "domesticity" and a 100% gricer-UNfriendly girlfriend, the hobby took a back seat for a few years, from 1986 until around 1993, when I came back....part time....

I don't have an awful lot of time for the current UK Railway and since 1998, almost all of my trips have been into mainland Europe. Due to a complicated set of circumstances, I haven't been anywhere since a trip to Latvia in May 2010. Hopefully, that will all change in 2012 and I might have something NEW to post....
