"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once you grow up." Pablo Picasso

Children find wonder in the simple things of life. They enjoy a freedom of expression artistically that we often lose when we grow up. Adults seem to struggle more when creating. They often focus on the finished artwork rather than relishing the expression and process of creativity. Grown-ups can sometimes forget the delight and fun they found in creating art as children.

Each artist has a different reason for creating. I want to remind people of the beauty and wonder found in our world. I strive to bring a playfulness to my work, reminiscent of the playing with art experienced during childhood. Much of my work reflects my interest in children and childhood, as I photograph children in their various moods and activites.

Photography allows me to learn from children as they observe and respond to the world around them. I try to portray their innocence and spontaneity in my work. They find joy and wonder in the small pleasures of life: picking flowers, jumping in a pile of leaves, dressing up in colorful clothes, or looking for seashells along the beach....may we all learn to delight in the simple wonders of life!

If you want to learn more about I how I process my photographs just send me some Flickr mail and ask. I have learned so much from the discussions and comments I've read on Flickr so I am happy to help others learn.

Since most of my work is with children, I have started making my photographs private and visible only to family and friends. If you would like to be added as a friend you can send me a Flickr mail. I have had problems with some of my photographs being stolen. Some of my photos may be public, but NONE of my photographs are allowed to be copied by others for their own purposes. You can enjoy my images and learn from them but you cannot use them for any reason without my permission.

"Beth brings a fresh perspective to every picture she posts. Her work has inspired me (and, no doubt, many others) to re-examine our own lives for defining elements of line, gesture, color and light. She can capture a moment in time, distill it to it's pure essence and make it live for the rest of us. Her photographs of children's natural interactions draw attention to moments which most of us, in our busy distracted lives, would overlook.
Beth's work illuminates childhood, in all its beauty and all it's ordinariness and elevates it to a level of art that is one of the truest celebrations of life I've seen."
