Explorer, Scientist, Writer, Photographer

Working in Asia since mid 2004, and traveling a lot. PHD in Geology. Published author of short stories, historical novels, adventure books, poetry, (popular) science and geoscience.
Since 2009 assoc prof petroleum geology in Curtin University, Miri, Sarawak.

'Matahari' is the poetic Malay word for 'sun' or, more precisely, 'the eye of the sun god,' hence appropriate for light and photography as such. It also stands for the enlightening role photography could play in our global society. My special interest concerns the sky, but I do cherish rock shots, macros, anything in nature and female beauty.

And the icon? It stands for classic values I feel a longing for - noblesse, chivalry, strength, and a lucid sense of loneliness.

"Franz's photostream is filled with truly amazing images. Many times I have been left speechless by the beauty he captures, whether it be his macro shots or his landscapes. His real talent for leaving you speechless lies in his captivating sunset images...once seen, never forgotten.

Thank you Franz for sharing with us the beauty of your world."
