(be·holder) away for awhile's photostream

I am new to Flickr and spend most of my time exploring as opposed to tending to my own site. I don't have a particular favorite thing to photograph; I think all things are beautiful.

I feel compelled to share a story. My grandmother came to visit me in the states when my first son was born, 18 yrs ago. I bought my first camera to record this special reunion/occasion. After she returned to Iceland, I sent her the photos. About a month later, she sent me a book and a letter. Both were set aside. My newborn kept me preoccupied and less than six months later, I had another one on the way.

I only discovered my true passion for photography about a year ago. I started out taking pictures of children for friends and co-workers.

About 6 months ago, while rummaging through some old things, I found the letter from my grandmother. I never found the book. My grandmother passed a few years ago. In the letter, she wrote "You have a great deal of artistic talent in you..something you must not ignore. In the book you see how this woman started taking pictures of children and ended up being an international photographer. In your copy, the publisher's omitted a dedication. In my copy it reads "For my mother, Isabelle 1904-1986" This is the last copy the bookstore had - I was lucky to find it for you."

I always thought if I turned my passion into a profession, I would lose the love for it. I now understand that this is the direction I was meant to take.

I have tried to locate the book based on the limited information that she provided in her letter. If anyone has any information about the photographer or author, please, please, shoot me an email. Thank you.
