Fe em Brasil's photostream  

An English girl through and through but from 2002 until the end of 2007 I was living in Fortaleza in the Northeast of Brazil. Here I worked as a volunteer with a project working with the street children of the city, their families and the slum community local to us. We also had an out of town project for boys who have chosen to leave the streets but who are unable to return to live with their families at this time. I was one of the teachers out there and general all round aunty for the boys.

Although I have been taking photos for years I am still very much a beginner when it comes to thinking creatively about my photos rather than simply pointing and shooting to remember an event or person.

Since my brother came out to visit me in 2006 I began to once again remember how much fun photography can be and that it can be more than just for the sake of a memory. Thanks also to my brother for my new pro account and now also for my upgrade to a Canon 350D!

My friends all laugh at me for my new found photography passion and the fact that I am now never without my camera or taking pictures of things that they think are weird. But I am having fun so who really cares. And I think am producing some pretty good photos too (with plenty of scope for improvement too - obviously!).

They found it particularly entertaining when I undertook to take a self-portrait a day for a year. Not even I had any idea of the journey that little idea would take me on! Here is the completed set:
