5th ZAGREB FILM FESTIVAL

21st – 27th October 2007. / STUDENT CENTRE, CINEMA EUROPE / ZAGREB

This year Zagreb Film Festival celebrates its half-jubilee, although, when we look back and see what we have been through together, five years deserve to be celebrated as an actual jubilee.
We have two new programs, 'Vip Bib Show', for young film lovers and filmmakers and 'Elections' – anticipating Croatian parliamentary elections. We’re carrying on with our well-known and successful programs: 'Club 100', 'Matinees' and 'My first film' which is given a special 'In Memoriam' dimension this year.

We’ll last one day longer than in previous years; we’re changing our web site and introducing novelties so we believe that this year’s audience will exceed last year’s admirable figure of 30.000.
In our three movie theatres we’ll be screening around 70 films from all over the world. The entire principal feature program will have its matinee pre-screenings in SC Cinema and reruns in Cinema Europe the following day, while reruns of documentaries can be seen in &TD Cinema and of Matinees in Cinema Europe, on the same day. Make sure you don’t miss our fantastic Club 100 program either.

Zagreb Film Festival features debut, first and second author films, so we like to claim that we turn people into stars. Or at least we help them on their way. It was at our festival that German feature film 'The Life of Others' by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck won its first festival awards, both from the audience and the jury, and it is not seldom the case that Zagreb audience gets to be among the first in Europe to see movies that later turn into blockbusters, such as 'Borat' which had its European prepremiere in SC Cinema.

On the other hand, most important is the fact that the majority of films screened at ZFF can be seen only then and there, so this festival remains a unique big screen distribution channel in the country.

We’ll put up another photography exhibition in cooperation with SONY ALPHA - 'Still Frames' and our great side-events will be running this year as well.

The Festival award is called GOLDEN PRAM and our general sponsor Vipnet provides monetary awards in the international competition of 5.000 EUR for long feature film and 1.500 EUR each, for short and documentary, while the audience’s first choice walks away with 1.000 EUR. BUG magazine is awarding 2.000 EUR to the best film in the Checkered selection.

Visit the festival and make the biggest Croatian film festival anniversary memorable.
