About me!
I'm a typcial down to earth Yorkshireman, and true to myself person.
I was born and bred, and still live in the great City of Leeds.
I'm slowly getting wiser thanks to being such a bloody fool in the past!
I try not to be too serious, and enjoy a good laugh in life.
I wear my heart on my sleeve, what you see is what you get with me.
Although it isn't easy in this day and age, I always try to treat people with the same respect that i'd like to receive back.
I'm a firm believer in 'what you sow, so shall you reap'
How people treat you is their karma, how you react is yours!
Bad Karma you give only ends up slapping you back in the face!!
Life is too short, and you should make the most of it while your here!

Instant Karma!
About my photography!
I first started my exploration photography during the Summer of 2006.
This type of photography can be called Urban exploration, or Urbex for short.
I however don't want to limit, or pigeon hole myself into any kind of category.
There are many ethics, and contradictory politics to disagree with in Urbex these days.
Individuality, and enjoyment in what you do is the main thing!
I also like to capture subjects that interest me. Surviving relics from bygone days, interesting stories. Hidden, and forgotten places around Leeds.
I have always been fascinated by the heavy engineering of the Victorian era.
The mamoth construction of the railways and canals. These fed the ever hungry mouth of the Industrial revolution that shaped Britain today. These construction feats still stand as a lasting legacy, and testament to the men who built them. I feel it is a shame when the hard work gone in to building them has been left to decay.
There can often be a sad beauty in photographing these forlorn places.
I have very little time for modernisation, It is mostly plastic and lacking any real character, It very rarely stands the test of time.
I hope some of my photographs will prove to be a positive collection of images for future generations to come.

"By FAR, the most interesting and attention grabbing contributor I've ever stumbled across on Flickr.
Please keep it up Phill, you're an inspiration, and the work you do will eventually be RECOGNISED as a major historical body of work.

"I agree with everything that has already been said.
As a teacher in Leeds, I first came across Phill's work looking for source material on Adel Beck. From that time, he has supported me on so many other aspects of old Leeds...photographs, information, videos. His work has brought learning alive to my pupils. For this I cannot thank him enough, without him so much of our history would be lost forever.
As a painter, though, it is the artistic/visual qualities of his photographs that really get me! The compositions are amazing...the colours, the shapes, the mood, the tones are breathtaking. To me his most recent visit to Sandsend exemplifies these qualities the best. There is true beauty in his photography. Keep up the brilliant work, Phill x"2nd August, 2010

"There's not much I can say that hasn’t already been said here. Phills' photos are just incredible and the amount of planning and research that goes into his expeditions is worthy of the best documentaries on the Discovery Channel. I have learnt so much about my beloved City of Leeds from Phill, his passion for bringing these forgotten places to life and to document them for the future is worthy of the key to the city in my opinion. Every city needs a Phill D. Thanks mate, you are a star."

"I have never been so voluntarily glued to my computer screen!
Am hooked! (along with a number of my friends too!)
Where would we be without the internet?
The first photos I came across were of Mount St Mary's Church in Leeds. I used to go to this school - the photos are most haunting and very sad in that it's state of neglect of such a beautiful building will never be seen in it's former glory. I never knew photographs of anything but friends and loved ones could be so emotional- Phill seems to capture this and know exactly what to say to describe the moment with so much passion.
Then he hits me with The International/Olympic pool !-maybe it's because I'm a Leeds lass and spent many hours training and teaching there, why it is so emotional to see somewhere else special to me in it's last days.
You really deserve all the praise and support you have from your fellow photographers and 'fans'. I didn't realise how much work goes into one of your adventures.Well done to your team too.
I really do wish you the best of everything for the future and hope your lucky break is in the not too distant horizon.
Never thought I'd thank a guy for bringing a tear to my eye!
Keep it up!"25th October, 2009

"Phill has one of the most interesting photostreams I have seen on Flickr. Not only is he a great photographer but I have never known anyone who is so passionate about their history as Phill is.
All of his photos have great stories and I have a lot of admiration for the way Phill researches and presents the pictures and the history in such an interesting way.
Phill's underground photography is excellent and he goes to some quite hostile locations which are very challenging places for photography,to bring us these wonderful pictures.
He has a wicked sense of humour too which comes across in his great write-ups!
Keep it up mate :)"23rd February, 2009

"This intrepid urban explorer is fast becoming a legend. I am constantly fascinated and amazed by his exploits, and his photographic records of the decay and decrepitude still extant in our cities is wondrous. Truly a master of his trade and we can do little more than commend him to all. Well Done Phill :)"

"Urban exploration, and subterranean-urban exploration… Phill’s photo collection takes us on the most incredible journey, both under and over Leeds, showing us places we could never dream existed, and where only the most experience ‘Urbex’ explorers dare tread. Add to this, Phill’s extensive local knowledge and undying enthusiasm for old Leeds, and it all adds up to one of the most fascinating photostreams on Flickr. Thanks for sharing Phill, and I for one look forward to seeing more of your work.
