Hi, I'm Oker, like the colour, only spelled differently.

I help run Soul in the City, a community oriented party featuring grassroots acts and creative themes. We aim to create a non-judgmental, accessible, and positive atmosphere for people who enjoy music and dancing.

Running total of equipment casualties:

- S45 point and shoot obliterated after sustaining a surprisingly high tolerance to multiple high impact damage, flooding, sand and grit in the motor, and collapsed casing

- 350D body sent in for repairs twice for saltwater contact while taking surfing photographs chest-deep in the ocean, causing total camera failure

- one gigabyte compact flash card lost in the panic of the saltwater issue

- 17-85mm lens sustained a permanent, but ultimately unproblematic dent in the filter screw threads when it cushioned me going over the front of the bicycle handlebars from the uncomfortable asphalt

- chipped glass on the UV filter due to above accident, again without detriment to image quality

- 180GB external harddrive, used to store all of the photographs prior to Sept. 2006, failed upon impact on ground from tabletop; plans to hire a company to recover the images are on hold until $2000 becomes pocket change and luckily I had almost everything backed up on DVDs

- CF card reader failed after read pins become bent and snapped off

- 430EX flash unit left on the sunny sidewalks of San Francisco during a hitchhiking trip

- EF500DG flash hotshoe broken off as a result of jumping off a rooftop and having it collide with a solid knee

- DPT175 tripod stolen while left on ground during parkour shoot

- second DPT175 tripod fallen apart when six screws mysteriously vapourized; screws could've been replaced but the legs became permanently damaged after their role as a drumset during a very involving street festival

- off-camera TTL flash cable failure due to severed wiring from poor quality.

- silver flash umbrella's metal spokes crushed when tripod with flash and umbrella was blown over on the beach

- RC5 remote shutter lost at IUHPE International World Conference on Health

- Hotshoe to tripod adapter lost at IUHPE International World Conference on Health

- Second hotshoe to tripod adapter broken after tripod fell out of my camera bag and hit the pavement (don't worry, I still have more).

- Second EF500DG Super flash unit received a crack running down the flash head light point after it tried committing suicide by jumping off a fully extended tripod (and onto a carpet - just shows how high it was when it fell)

- Cardboard snoot disintegrated in the rain

- Umbrella bracket for lightstand received a crack for tightening the clamp screws due to shoddy craftmanship

- 24-70mm f2.8 L series lens. Somehow this pricey lens broke in 13 months of use. The lens and camera was in a fanny pack during the 2008 China trip and after two days it no longer focuses correctly nor reaches 24 or 70 mm.

For the love of all things congenital, don't hide your EXIF tags.

I am male and full of vinegar.
