I’m not sure how to come up with a satisfactory profile... Thus, I think I’ll fill it with lists.

If you want to listen to something while you read, this is what I would choose. Happy listening.

My name is Genevieve. I…

(photography)

- became interested in photography while I was in high school.
- learned about photography by checking out stacks and stacks of photography books from libraries and poring over them.
- have never taken a photography class.
- most enjoy photographing people, urban settings, breaking news and everyday, “boring” subjects.
- have won quite a few photography awards in statewide competitions hosted by The Illinois College Press Association and The Chicago Tribune.
- love discussing photography.
- set out to make this Flickr site a place where potential customers could view my work (a portfolio of sorts), but instead have made it a more personal space.
- don’t own a camera. (I'm incredibly blessed to have awesome friends who let me borrow theirs.)
- work with ESPN photographer Ross Dettman.
- work as a wedding photographer for J. Edgar Photography.
- work as a wedding photographer with Garbo Productions.
- am currently pursuing establishing myself as a freelance academic event photographer in the Chicagoland area. I have been quite fortunate to work with many wonderful universities.

(other life)

- am married to my amazing Douglas Lee. He's not only my favorite person in the whole world, he's also my best friend, my dearest confidante and the man I love with all of me.
- have a wonderful family of two brothers (19 and 23), a sister (14) and a loving mom and dad. My family contains five of my favorite people.
- once went to The Bozo Show where I saw Bozo drunk and yelling at workers backstage.
- hate clowns.
- have been a member of the same church for nearly 23 years now (my parents first brought me when I was 2). My church is a big, close extended family for me.
- get really nervous when being photographed (ironic, but not that uncommon I’ve found).
- love reading.
- have a great imagination. Too great at times.
- have a music assortment that has been described as “ADHD in an I-Pod.”
- Often get more upset about injustice towards other people than about injustice shown to me.
- named my little blue '92 Toyota Corolla "la cucharita" (the teaspoon).
- enjoy having time to myself. I get rejuvenated in quiet, lonely spaces.
- enjoy being in the midst of crowds (of friends and of strangers). I get rejuvenated by interacting with people.
- have met some wonderful people through Flickr who have inspired, taught, criticized and befriended me.

Hey everyone, I never thought I'd make a disclaimer like this, but I sort of feel it's necessary. If you favorite or blog one of my photos for what appears to be a sexual reason or make overtly sexual comments on my photos, be forewarned that I will find it necessary to block you because my photos are never intended for that purpose nor are they shot with that intent. Many of the people portrayed in my photos are friends and family members that I care deeply about, please respect that. Thank you.

All of my photos are copyrighted. If you would like to use them for any purpose feel free to contact me through Flickrmail (I'll be happy to figure something out for you), however, please do not feel free to use my photos without permission.

    Carboxyl Heaven says:

"It's apparent that Genevieve clearly understands (better than myself) and practices the principles of photography and what makes a photo aesthetic. She has a diverse array of photos, of which are always progressive in technique and style. It seems like no photo has the same kind of approach, she's always on to something new and different. Whether the photo is abstract or has a fascinating story or moral behind it, it always seems to have an effect, the kind of effect that excites you the very split second you see the photo, even as soon as you see the thumbnail.

On top of her talent, she is very truthful, observant, and most importantly courteous. She is willing to take her time and tell you what exactly she likes about your photo, sometimes making me aware of things that I haven't yet noticed in my own photo. I'm glad that I found her portfolio and I definitely recommend adding her as a contact, you'll gain much insight.

    Morgan Gray"
