I grew up (nearly grew up) in Southern California. But I have a home in NorCal, in the old, old town of Benicia. Family concerns keep me down in L.A. lately though. [More Recent Note: My Father passed away not too long ago, at 88.4 and so the 'family concerns' I mention just above are lessening. As of May, 2011 I've managed to sell my folks' home and many possessions, and a very heart-rending effort that was. Each item brought back memories of the good in them and our times together. But I will have a lot more freedom, now. Care-giving was pretty much 7-24 since June, 2006.]

I am most proud of: my kids, my fluency in Spanish, and my association with the University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA), from which I got my B.A. in 1973, hence the number in my logon. Go Bruins!!!!! Raise Banner 12, Bite the BCS!! (Also, getting my M.S. free from Golden Gate U., paid by the telephone company!)

Most of my photos see light in the group for guessing 'what car is this?'

.
I just care very much about old cars. Cars were surely the first thing I noticed after milk and food--Dad was in the biz back then. I respect the iron of the past and think there is some kind of mechanical soul in there; I also like to "connect" with the owners, designers, founders, which is about as spiritual as I get. Cars are drawings, sculptures, icons, aren't they?

With a camera in my hands, I try to imagine the viewer's eye and mind. And where possible, I try to be inspired by human feelings the pictures portray, evoke or please. Or I try to sense the subject's relation to life around it and its place in time. But I am not a photog really, just an admirer. Sometimes there may be humor here, in the guessing games, hopefully not too arcane.

I have obsessed with wheels all my life, and soaked up a lot of memories and superficial car knowledge. If any of my pictures move your interest to the subject just a little or make you laugh, that would please me.

    Martin van Duijn says:

"I enjoy Grant's photos because of the sunny Californian optimism they show us. Always sunny, which brings out the best in the colors of the cars he loves to portray. Let's hope Grant never goes digital, because his photos have that true and honest film aura, that seems to have been lost by looking at so many oversharp digital images these days. There are more reasons that brings me to Grant's photos: his keen eye for the automotive unusual and special and the wit and often encyclopedic knowledge about cars friom the forties to seventies, as expressed in the description and comments he adds to his photos."
