Hi. how's it going? :D
It's so nice of you to stop by. Sorry if this drags on a little long ... i kinda ramble. (emphasis on kinda)

Firstly:
My pictures are copywrited for my personal use only. Ask my permission if you would like to use one of them ... i may be generous.
And now that that's out of the way:

I am:
- Tall, Dark, Super-Handsome, 23.
- Very humble.
- Slightly sarcastic. lol.
- Prone to use THE MOST CRAZY over-exaggerations that leave people amazed, and staggered, and occasionally crying or dead.

I have:
- A family and a dog.
- Many good friends.
- They all natrually think i'm a great guy.

LOL ... riiiiiggghhhttt ...

So, really, how'd i end up here?
Well, some good fortune/skill (at a golf tournament) and a bit of saving allowed me to get a half-decent camera in sept/07 (my previous one being my cell phone!). Then i discovered flickr in dec/07, and now i am learning TONS every day, so my style is really varied. At this point, i still love to experiment. That said, i'm 100% envious of people who know exactly how to get what they want from their pictures. But then, getting there is half the fun ... right? ... right?!?! I sure hope so, because i'm here to learn, and to be inspired to pick up my camera and shoot.

I've always deep down loved art, but i was never good at drawing, never much into drama and the likes, and photography was far too expensive for me when i had more time to explore it. My only way to express myself in art was through music. Don't get me wrong, i'm not unhappy about that - I love music. I listen to it and make it as often as i can. When playing music, one can create the same song to be something completely unique every time because even though the written music may never change, it's what else the artist adds or subtracts each time. Notes and sounds can allow you to communicate and express so much more than images. They say 'a picture is worth a thousand words', but sometimes to me a few notes are worth a thousand pictures.

But, that said and out of the way, with my new camera, i've tapped into a new way of creating. A new way to express myself. A new dimension. And let me tell you: it's a breath of fresh air, and it feels just great. Especially great after having confined myself to the drudgery of the world of science and math for the past ... oh ... 6 years (give-or-take). I find there is very little appreciation for art within the engineering community - especially the young one (Thankfully, flickr has proven that there are a lot of talented artists out there who are engineers too). So, for me, being able to break loose into flickr's community has been something truly refreshing. While I love your comments, mostly i feed on your hard work. I hope my photos convey the freshness that i feel as i experiment and tinker with the art.

If i add you as a contact, it's because your stream has really caught my eye, i want to see more of your stuff, i like your style, and probably wish i had your mad skills (or i know you! haha). I hope you take that as a compliment =P (I like to think my taste is pretty decent). Should you feel so inclined, feel free to add me as a contact, and i will most-likely reciprocate.

That said, however, I will be very rigorous at checking profiles and any commenters to make sure there's no porn or the likes ... my tolerances are pretty low. (not my standards ... my tolerances - you follow?) ... so, please, save yourself the trouble and don't add me/comment if this applies to you.

Also, please ... keep your comments PG ... i know that may sound odd to a lot of people, but i'd like to keep this all-ages-friendly. I'm really sorry if i feel i have to delete a comment of yours, but ... well, it's my page actually, so i shouldn't have to feel sorry. I suppose what i intend to say is that i don't mean to offend you if i get rid of a comment, i'm just monitoring my pages. Thanks.

Two things I think you should know about me:
1 - I absolutely love commenting on things. Perhaps too much. If you're kind enough to grace one of my photos with a comment, I promise to try hard to make sure it's worth your while with a reply, or a comment of my own on some of your work (or both!). And if you're comment has depth - i try and make sure i do the same ... it's a give-and-take kinda thing. That's part of the reason i try to stay away from adding people who have like 50 billion contacts and just as many commenters and can't keep up with them all. I put some thought into my comments to make them original and specific (i generally try to stay away from the 'ooh this is nice' kinda thing and try instead to leave something worthwhile) so it's nice to know i'll be noticed.
2 - That all said, I seem to flickr in spurts. I go like super-crazy-active for a month and then peak in my activity ... then slack off and go border-line inactive. It's just the way i seem to roll. So don't be offended if i don't keep up on everything - and don't give up on me either!

Lastly, I don't want to join all the groups on flickr, so please, don't bother inviting me - if i'm interested, chances are i'll find it myself. As i said, i'm just here to learn and share a bit. i don't seek fame on flickr ... because ... well, in my opinion there are many better ways to feel satisfied in life. i'm into those. now on the other hand, even though i like to think that i'd still be here posting pics even if no one was watching me do it, i know that's kinda unlikely. meh. there's exceptions to every rule.

"I think its time I wrote a testimonial (that's how most people begin theirs).

Moving on: Derek's work is both fun and fantastic. For someone who claims to be a beginner and not notice things much he does an excellent job of capturing odd moments, interesting angles and processing wonderfully. If that's not multitasking I'm not sure what is!

I hope he keeps this up for years to come. Not only are his photos constantly blowing each other out of the water, his little anecdotes and comments add delightful wit to everything :)

    Keep up the great work!"

"Your photos are sexy. Sexier then me. Which must be pretty sexy. Ha ha...right!

Anyway, keep up the good work. Your photos are sheer class, and always a joy to look at."
