[Updated 20080807]

I am a retired Marine, Father of 3, Grandfather of 5, Uncle to 4, Granduncle to 7, pseudo-grandpa/uncle to many. In my current job I provide engineering support for aircraft simulators, managing networks, systems, and an assortment of network services.

You can get a sense for what our family is doing by visiting my blog hosted at World Press. That is when I have time to update it.

Between 1976 and 1983 I took many hundreds, probably thousands, of photographs traveling around the Pacific as a deployed US Marine. I actually got pretty good at it until my Canon F1, AE1, and assorted lenses and filters were stolen in 1983.

My Pentax K10D is the most versatile camera I've ever owned. There are so many programmable parameters that I still haven't used some of them. I've learned that, regardless of all the bells and whistles, it really boils down to mastering the same basic functions as on a film SLR. Composition, focus, aperture, shutter speed, and sensitivity are among the most important functions. The rest can be tuned in the "dark room" (software). Still, there's much less work if you can learn to adjust parameters while shooting.

I never had a darkroom available with my film cameras so I had to get everything right in the shot, not that I often did.. I did a lot of bracketing to learn, though. I've been following the same sort of process to learn my DSLR, bracketing and test shots. Although there is a lot you can do to "fix" or enhance an image with processing software, there is no substitute for a good capture. A good sense of timing and knowledge of your subject come in real handy here. Then you don't have to take so many shots and hope you get lucky. :-)

Most of my photographs are organized into collections and sets. Very view, if any, are not in any set. Jut click down through the collections until you see a set that you like.

The best way to browse anyone's stream, mine included, is to use the wonderful "Slide Show" feature on every Flickr photostream page. They're great for checking out a whole set or even an entire stream without having to wait for the clicks and page loads. I use this feature all the time on my friends streams.

My photos are on Flickr for 3 reasons:

1. It's a great way to organize and catalog my photos while having a backup copy.

2. It's easy for me to share them with my relatives and friends across the US and around the world.

3. It's a great way to spread cheer and happiness that I'm privileged to enjoy. Children are great stress relievers, even if they are sometimes contributors. I am happy to share this joy with anyone who needs or wants it.

This is a family friendly stream. Most of my photos are of my family and things that interest me. Photos that I feel might attract perverts are restricted to "Friends" or "Family". I have no lewd or pornographic shots so don't bother looking if that's what you're after. If you're looking for some cute, funny, happy, or interesting photos, I hope you'll find them here.

Have a tremendous Flickr day!

"Cal is simply one of the nicest guys I've met here on Flickr. He is thoughtful and sincere in his observations and commentaries.

His capturing of the moments excels beyond "just photography", Cal has a way of portraying his family in an open and honest way. He always brings a smile to my face with his wonderful brood.

The kids are all adorable and I feel like they are a part of my life as are the others that he holds dear.

This is what's all about really, reaching beyond the silicon and mica that make up those things we call our computers. Through the technology of the internet we share life on an intimate level that goes beyond "ordinary" relationships. We get to go into each others homes and surroundings and really get to know one another through our images and commentaries.

I feel compelled to touch base on the purpose and use of this great community because this is one of many areas where Cal shines in his photography not to mention his technical skills.

Fun and adventurous to say the least and always a great pleasure to visit Cal's stream.

Through time I have come to consider Cal as a brother as we have much in common and instantly hit it off in conversations, philosophies and an occasional chat on the phone.

Like many others here that share in the joy and happiness that is family here on Flickr, it just would not be the same without Cal and his brood.

For this I am thankful beyond words to be able to call Cal a brother and "compa" as we say in my culture.

Ultimately, there will come a time that our paths will cross in real life and when that day comes it will be as if we have all known each other all our lives our two families.....

Until then, let there be peace and love always in the future of your lives!
    Rey & Family"

"I met Cal Sr here on flickr when I hesitantly asked if I could edit one of his pictures.... : /
Luckily he said yes, and we have kept in touch from that point on.
He is a wonderful photographer, and he tells a story with his images here on flickr. His stream always makes me smile! It is filled with the love he feels for his family and that is always a nice relief from the stresses of everyday life!
Keep up the good work Cal Sr !!! I am so proud to call you my flickr friend !"
