"It's weird that photographers spend years or even a whole lifetime, trying to capture moments that added together, don't even amount to a couple of hours."

Started taking photographs when I was a young lad. I can remember being given a camera and my Dad, building a hide in the garden to photograph the birds. This was the start of my interest in Wildlife. For my 18th birthday I had a Yashica Film SLR. In my 20's and 30's the camera didn't get too much use as I was building up my business as a Cabinet Maker. I decided to "go digital" in 2005 and bought a Sony Creative Compact, as we were going to Canada on holiday with a friend who is a professional photographer. Comparing my photos with the ones she was taking with her Canon 20D, when we returned home I sold my Sony and invested in my first Canon. It was a case of light the blue touch paper and stand back!!! I am now well and truly hooked!! I now see the world in a completely different light. I never go anywhere without the camera!!

"Pippin woodlice is probably the funniest guy on Flickr, he certainly makes me laugh more often than most :o) But as well as that he is a photographer extraordinaire, with the most amazing raw talent. Put a camera in his hand and magic comes out, across a broad range of photographic genres... I love his diversity, the next post is always a surprise, and I always look forward to seeing what he has done.

But as well as all that, he is such a good friend, always giving encouraging comments, even, or especially, to lowly beginners..... while he produces professional standard pictures he is never above praising the efforts of total numpties (like me), and will always take time to comment on his contacts‘ pictures. Thanks for being there Pippin, friend and artist :)"

"Philip Male is an outstanding photographer and a constant source of friendly comments on others' photographs. He devotes a large amount of time to flickr and is an ambassador for the site, an example of the very best that members can bring to it. It has been my privilege to be counted among his contacts and an even greater privilege to watch his body of work grow from that of a talented photographer to the master of the discipline he is now. I would be proud indeed if even a fraction of my photographs were as good as his."

His sense of humour is so charming; at times unexpected, and comes through his photos with a cheeky, ethereal grin:)
Phil, thank you so much for sharing your view on life, and the world as you know it:) ♥"

"I only joined Flickr this year when I was doing a photography course at college. When I started to post my pictures on Flickr I noticed one name which was on my comments list more than others. It was woodlice111. I emailed Philip and thanked him for his comments which I so much appreciated as he is always so encouraging and helpful. I don't know how he finds time to help so many people as he does on Flickr as well as going out and taking such wonderful photographs as he does himself. II know I am not alone in saying how very much we all appreciate his comments and help. I managed to get a copy of Photoshop and a magazine that he recommended and I am now beginning to do a bit more with my pictures. When I finished my course which I passed I found myself on my own again, but thanks to Philip's comments on my pictures he has given me the encouragement to carry on both taking them and putting them on Flickr.
    Thank you Philip"

"I have only been on Flickr a short while; my main intention is to learn from others. With this in mind, I have to say what a great guy 'Mr Woodlice' has been. His photos are superb - thus setting a good example - and he has taken the time to offer constructive criticism on my efforts, accompanied by appropriate tips. He is a wonderful mentor and really encouraging - thanks."
