Having grown up in the bus terminals along the west coast,
My thalidomidic sister & i would often lick the nutritious stains we found under the seats for sustenance.
Our mother beat us regularly with stray cats.
We'd take the candy that strangers threw at us,
And use The Tootsie Rolls as ear-plugs to mute our own screams.
Our clothes were made from the wrappings of discarded hamburgers,
And our shoes were the dried vomit of lovable hobos that would favor us with sea chanties.
Despite what may seem like hardships to you,
Those were the happiest years of my life.
How i often yearn for a cold slab of cement to lay down my head upon,
To sleep away another fitful night.
