Hi! I'm Dawn.
Photography, for me, began as a way of capturing some of the beauty that I see in the world every day, and sharing it with others. I’ve been a member of the flickr community for 3 ½ years now, and it has completely changed the way I see the world. Everything is so vivid and bold and wonderful when seen through the lens of a camera---I think I am now completely addicted.

I’ve never had a photography lesson, so what you see on my photostream is the result of having had a camera in my hand since I was very young, a few inspiring views or chance encounters, and the generous tips and advice of my talented flickr friends. I would love to learn more about photography, but unfortunately don’t have much time for it right now.

I’m here for fun—to learn and meet new people. I have a bit of a silly personality, so if I make a bizarre comment on your photo, it’s just me trying to make you laugh. I still have SO MUCH to learn, so your constructive comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

So… while I’m learning, I’ll just share what makes me smile, and hope it will make you smile a little too. Please say hello!

P.S. It's very difficult for me to keep up with posting AND commenting during the school year (Sept - June), as teaching takes up SO much of my time. I'll come visit and comment as often as I can ~ please have patience with me. I love it here...so I WILL be back!





MY EQUIPMENT:

Camera: I am slowly learning how to use my Nikon D40 (thanks to those of you who have made an attempt to explain how it all works to me--you know who you are!) but in case of emergency, I also have as my constant companion, my Panasonic DMC-FZ18 Point & Shoot Fabulouso!

Tripod: Sometimes a log, but usually a rock.

Lenses: 3! One short, one long, and one wide!

Filters: 1 orange filter that doesn't fit my camera and a scratched up GND filter. Update: I now have a circular polarizer, and am having tons of fun making crazy blue skies and seeing underwater!

Editing:I have PS CS3, Elements, & Lightroom, but don’t really know how to use them, so mostly, I use Picasa. :-)

    "Dawn didn't know that the volcano could erupt at any time, an unfortunate artifact of our public school system. I'd only known her for a few minutes before she encouraged me to scale Iceland's new claim to fame with her in hopes of repelling into the mouth of the giant gaping hole in the earth. She heard that deep inside the volcano was where they made the special ingredient for sour patch kids. That sweet yet sour sugar that has captivated cavity-addicts for years. She was so infatuated with going down there, she didn't realize that molten lava chunks were spewing out of the volcano like kindergartner after jumping around on a full stomach. She had her camera with her, and as a local sherpa, I tried to inform her that her flesh would probably melt before her well-constructed Nikon SLR. This didn't stop her as she ended up stealing a NASA space suit equipped to withstand temperatures to 300F.

    After realizing this was setting her up for an EPIC FAIL, we went back down to the local village and discussed her passions over a very expensive coffee and a side of yak meat. Interesting, funny, social, private and mostly brunette, Dawn showed why she has such a following. Plus she's not so bad with a camera. If you ever have the chance to meet up with her, she's good people. Just don't let her take you on any hikes without an astronaut suit."

    "I have known Dawn for 23 years. She and I dated back in Jr. high and like most relationships at that age only lasted a couple weeks. She is very outgoing and athletic. I am so glad I was able to get back in touch with her after so many years. She married a great guy that I considered a good friend back in they day. They are the counter points in eachother. Dawn is still breath taking after all these years. She has a good head on her shoulders and the images she captures through her lens, are almost as beautiful as her.
