A bit more about me: My professional background is both botany (plant taxonomy, specializing in palms) and horticulture. I grew up in southern Florida, but spent some time in southern California while in graduate school at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden. My spouse, Tsyr Han, and I garden in Miami, where we are growing as many Salvia species as we can fit in our garden. We also grow orchids, palms, bamboos and a lots of plants for hummingbirds. I also enjoy cooking (esp. food from the garden), reading, writing, making presentations about plants, and listening to podcasts from the BBC.

I love taking photographs, although my "style" (such as it is) reflects my long habit of taking photos for use in teaching plant taxonomy; hence, I tend to focus on diagnostic details of plants, rather than overall habit. Recently, I've become more interested in garden design, and I enjoy visiting gardens and seeing how plants are used.
