Metrix X.

My New Year resolution for 2006 was to focus more on people.

For 2007 my resolution is to try and focus on mood and impact.

In retrospect I am not sure I mean I know my 2007 resolution was not completely successful. I got a bit carried away with the use of old film camera also made a large format 8x10" foamcore pinhole camera. Great satisfaction in developing the huge negatives in my bath tub. Now you know why I am single. In addition I just brought a medium format camera. Love the 3d depth to the images.

I did improve my composition and post processing. In all false modesty I think this has improved the impact of my photographs.

My 2008 resolution was to dwell even less on equipment leaving the technology and techniques behind the scenes. Shoot more theme oriented photography and continue working on 2007 resolutions.

In retrospect I think I have been successful. While my flickr posting count has dropped to an average of 2.2 photos per day I think the quality and emotional impact has risen partly because at least half of my shots came from old film cameras. Square medium format TLR seem to suit my style. Shooting slows down becoming more methodical giving my subconscious side of the brain time to compose.

Landmark Shots For  2008

Some 2008 milestones in my quest to becoming a better artistic photographer rather then being my best or favourite shots.

No set plans for 2009 except maybe to let the creative side have more freedom.

On the technical side 2008-2009

I have been doing a lot of my own B&W development;

In June I brought a diminutive small digital p&s to use as a carry everywhere camera. It takes reasonable candid shots plus the occasional RBVP (check my tags);

Now days I'm working mainly in film. Sold a piece to NY which is coming back to Toronto as a 10" high poster in a Esprit store. Won several firsts in the yawn City of Toronto photo contest. Experimented with refinal and Xtol + Rodinal as developers. See my blog for some maybe useful scanning and developing techniques.

Important Not that anyone will read this but:

All comments are welcome. Criticism is welcome only if you are on my contact or if I have posted the image to a group that is for criticism. While I don't mind them in comments I am not that fond of notes on the photos with suggested crops and clones (give me a break I know how to crop and clone), the exceptions being those from experts in the field or when I have asked for suggestions.

Please refrain from posting: group invites: self promotional images or text; awards; that contain either larger then small size, that blink, flash, sparkle or are animated in any way. I will delete them.

No not even remotely negative, racial, degrading, overtly rude or sexist remarks will be tolerated especially if they are aimed at the people in my photos.
