We're hiring back-end application developers to work on core Flickr features and APIs as part of our San Francisco-based engineering team. Other typical projects include integrating with partners and prototyping new ideas. - A disciplined approach to design/architecture, development, documentation and maintainability
- Self-management in the code-test-debug cycle
- Coordination with other team members, partners and external stakeholders through documentation and discussion
A successful candidate will have:
- Experience with web development in a language such as PHP, Python JavaScript or Ruby (ideally for a large, customer-facing website)
- Competence with MySQL or other SQL databases and memcache
- Experience with optimizing storage for high-read applications (e.g. denormalization).
- Fluency with the LAMP stack, XML and browser technologies
- 3-5 years or more experience of working in software engineering teams
- A constant desire to improve, learn more and take things higher
Bonus:
- Prior work with large scale, high volume systems
- Prior experience developing user-generated content features, misuse and abuse strategies
- Academic background in computer science (BSc or MSc)
- Experience with node.js or Redis
- Expertise in JavaScript, Java, C or C++
- Experience with web-based authentication standards, such as OAuth, including use of, and development with, partner APIs
- A familiarity with a wide variety of tools, languages and approaches
- Expertise in networking, databases, mail handling, image processing, iOS or Android development
And of course you'll have:
- A camera
- A passion for the web and the possibilities it affords for new forms of human interaction and community
- A strong tolerance for office tomfoolery
- A desire to change the world
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to legally work in the US
- Accountability, honesty, responsibility, flexibility ... and a sense of fun and playfulness
