Yes, I had problems yesterday with 3Gs videos not converting when sent from the iPhone. Haven't tried uploading them from my Mac yet.

I have also tried to post three different videos by emailing and uploading them via the website and they have all failed. I have not gotten one video to process correctly.

It's quite frustrating. How about an upload to Flickr option on the iPhone people! :)

Out of the 4 videos I've tried to upload via my flickr upload email (from my 3gs) only 1 has processed correctly.
I really hope either an app comes out, or even better would be a Upload to Flickr option.
I dont want to use youtube.

Yep, same problem here and on Vimeo. Apple is using an odd compression codec that is throwing off the conversions.

App developers.. can anyone see if there is an API that lets you add a menu option to the UPLOAD piece? and make a flickr one?
William, where did you read something about the compression codec? That'd be interesting to push on.. if it is not standard.

Very intermittent. Have had fails with both emails and sync from iPhone and upload to flickr through the web ui.
Here's a fail example: (emailed)

Here's an example that worked: (emailed)

hope they fix soon.

I think I may have figured this out. Thanks to weevil for the clue. Looks like Flickr does not support processing videos that are in portrait mode. All the videos I have tried to upload have been in portrait mode. I just tried one that was taken in landscape and it uploaded just fine via email.

Aapljack, you nailed it. I just did a test and that worked. Sounds like Kevin and team are aware. Woohoo! Hopefully they post back here when complete.
Now.. if only the YOUTUBE option would be fixed.. Flickr.. Since it might be hard to get Flickr on Apple's menu (although not sure why).. Maybe pull YouTube videos from our YouTube account with a setting? If we post iPhone > YouTube, then Flickr pulls from YouTube.. problem solved? (except the crappy conversion on Googles part)

Not only in portrait mode, it depends on if you shot the video 'upside down' even in Landscape mode. The video doesn't appear upside down, you just get the 'We are unable to process this video' message. For the heck of it I created a video where I rotated the phone 360 degrees, and as you can guess, that also didn't post.
This was my first test video upload, seems appropriate!

With the iPhone 3gs videos I've tried uploading, I noticed all of the ones I shot vertically uploaded fine. The videos I shot horizontally flickr, facebook and other sites seem to cough on in the processing stage. Has anyone else noticed this or is everyone having trouble uploading even horizontally shot videos?

Are you trying to Send videos thru your Yahoo account? If so, their server will only take an under 10 second video. I went over this with Apple Tech. When I switched to my Comcast account, I was able to e-mail a 52 second video.
I went crazy all weekend - getting error messages after trying to send on Yahoo.

Here's my two cents... I tried a free video converter (.mov to .avi) and it worked but the iphone vid, although shot in portrait, converted to horizontal when uploaded to Flickr.

Alrighty, I played with various methods of shooting and uploading and I'm now consistently getting it to upload. The video that is consistently working is shot in landscape with the camera on the "top" (i.e. home button by your right thumb). The upload method is via email directly from the iPhone. Thanks to all who suggested this. The video quality isn't the greatest, but at least it works now. Now for Mobile Foto to add a video upload function and we'll be all set.

We've got a solution for videos like those from the 3gs that have a roation flag set. Testing is underway, and we hope to have the fix out as soon as we're confident it didn't break anything else.

Thanks Flickr Team.
I know we are all irritable customers, but working in the software industry.. supporting a site of this scale, I understand that a couple week turn around is a safe compromise. You will make us all happy by doing it right :)

Apple put Flickr integration in iPhoto, why not the iPhone?

Redbenn.. you nailed my exact thoughts when I saw the context menus on the iPhone. The right way would be a setting to allow ANY content provider to expose a "send to" option, and the user could enable them via settings.

Torgerson and redbenn, while that's a nice thought, that kind of flexibility would be completely out of character for Apple -- particularly with it's implementation of the iPhone. Think about it, you can have multiple email accounts, but only one custom signature? You can't customize the ringtone on incoming messages. It goes on and on. Not to mention, there's obviously a deal in place with google (google maps and YouTube come preinstalled and are well-integrated). The chances of them integrating the Y!'s photo-sharing site are somewhere between slim and none

in answer to redbenn's question its because apple and yahoo didn't have an agreeement to put this functionality in. They opted for youtube because they work closely with google (the google CEO is on the apple board).
That doesn't excuse how long its taking these guys to get this fixed. I mean I feel like I've been pretty patient but unless y'all found an issue with it 9 days is AMPLE time for testing.
One last note: If you want to upload content directly to flickr you can try Pixelpipe. It's a free app that allows you to upload content directly from your phone. That being said it doesn't work with Flickr and video because...well you know.
Cmon guys get this done.

unfortunately youtube's black bars make "rotated" videos look like crap on youtube... So, I've been waiting to present a comparison video upload sites for 3gs videos. It looks like I'm going to have to present it without flickr and provide a summary of this forum:
staff, feel free to provide any other details you may feel are relevant:
-issue was brought to attention of flickr June20th
-acknowledged and they were working on it three weeks ago
-two weeks ago they say they found a solution, testing underway
-no update since

Sweet. I tried all three -- portrait and both landscapes -- and it worked for each of the three uploading via the flash page. Now I'll try to upload directly from the phone via email. If you don't hear from me again, then it worked! Good job folks. Now to get Mobile Fotos to support video upload and I'll be all set.

Are there plans to get rid of the youtube style black bars on the side of the video? Flickr video's lack of black bars was one of it's best selling points. That seems to be gone with the addition of the blackbars from hell
