What are the changes from 3.1.2? The 'check for updates' box on the Uploadr recommends 3.1.3 but gives no other information.

Hi Brenda,
3.1.3 is the version for wider release to the Flickrverse. The previous version, 3.1.2 was available in the help forum only. We enabled updates on some older versions of the desktop Uploadr for this general release, so that may be why you got the prompt. 3.1.3 is our latest version available for upgrade.

Seems ok and working for now.
One thing it could do with to be useful, (to me at least), would be an auto shutdown/hibernate/standby option upon completion of upload as i often leave my images and videos uploading overnight so my connection bandwidth isn't hogged by the Uploader during the day...
...my connection is quicker at night too...
...jus' speaking my mind...

I use jUploadr instead because of the following key features:
- tag auto completion
- you can specify a default set of tags to apply to all pictures as soon as they are added the queue.
One thing it does not do is let you drag pics to the dock, so if FlickrUploadr had these 2 features, I'd use it.

downloaded ok on mac. 60Mb seems to be a very large app though??
my [initial] gripe: the older version added lightroom tags as one whole sequence, i.e. within " " marks, but at least it added them.
this version doesn't seem to add lightroom tags / metadata at all. i checked that the tags are being written to the file. anything else i need to do?

I havn't tried this version yet, but is there a reason why if I upload via the uploader on flickr, I can get close to my 1Mb/sec, yet using the the flickr uploader program, I only get about 300-500KB/sec?

In my case, the EXIF keywords aren't being displayed in the Uploadr, but they are pulled into flickr as tags once it uploads.

new version seem to get IPTC headline & caption as photo's title & description. And the keywords as well. That's great.

This has been a issue for at least the last 3 versions, but is probably not a problem with the Uploader, as such.
My camera irritatingly puts 'Samsung Digital Camera' into the EXIF description of all my photos. I usually strip this in my workflow, but sometimes forget.
The Uploader shows 'Samsung Digital Camera' as the photo description, which I then delete.
But the description is again pulled from the EXIF data when the photo gets to Flickr, so I have to delete it again!

Actually my previous post might be related to Brenda's problem...does / should the Uploader edit the EXIF data used to populate various fields?

How do I go back to 2.5? it was fast, this is big and clunky, did MS write this? And the sets are listed alphabetical not in last order uploaded?? When I shrink the window, the "upload" disappears. There should be a "simple" view without all the stuff on the side.

Hmmm... I allowed Uploadr to update itself to the new version and there appear to be problems.
Currently four images are queued in Uploadr.
The first three I've been able to specify Sets to add to, but the fourth just isn't happening.
Shut down Uploadr and restart it to find it's lost all the titles, description and tags for all four images.
Shut down Uploadr and restart it again. All titles, descriptions and tags are returned, (phew) but the fourth image is still refusing to be placed in any groups. Once again the other three are fine.
Decide to upload. All four images are uploaded, however Uploadr hangs on 99%.
Windows XP system. Previous version worked fine.

One big issue that I've run into is that this version doesn't automatically include tags that have been added by other software. The last version would take the tags assigned in Lightroom and apply them as tags in Flickr. Not so with this version... glitch or intentional removal of functionality?
On the upside, this version of uploadr seems to work faster than the last one. And is less glitchy when I try to select all photos with the mouse.

One thing i REALLY miss in the Uploadr is the possibility to SUBSTITUTE descriptions, as we can do with the titles... My camera always writes down some weird text about the file in the description, so I can either erase them one by one or just leave them there... I end up doing the second, but if the Uploadr could allow me to substitute descriptions, it'd be sweet!

When Uploadr 3 was released 13 months ago I tried it and found these two issues which were bad enough for me to keep using Uploadr 2: First, it wasn’t “hideable” on OS X, and second, it had completely nonstandard dropdown controls. Actually I think that I had one more issue that I just forgot to mention, namely the weird tabbing order of the various controls, but I’m not completely sure about this.
Yesterday I decided to give it another try. The good news: Hiding the application is now possible. The bad news: the dropdown controls are still behaving like in Windows, and the tab order is still totally broken.
I’ll keep using Uploadr 2.3.1 for now.

For the past few versions, I have been unable to upload at "full" speed. I have 78K upload speed (roughly), but the flickr uploadr only uploads photos at around 30-40K.
If I use juploadr, I get the full upload speed. Am I missing sometthing? Is there a way to allow it to use my full upload speed, or am I sticking with juploadr again?
EDIT: Ok, I've timed the uploads. I'm sad like that.
Both are using exactly the same 10Mb image. There is no difference to the images at all, neither are resized.
juploadr uploaded the image in 2:57, including processing.
flickr uploadr uploaded the image in exactly 5 minutes, including processing.
If I have a large batch of images to upload, that's going to add up to a lot of time wasted!

I decided to look for a new version yesterday because I was tired of the fact that the sets weren't sorted in alphabetic order in the tool (I have hundreds of sets). I found 3.1.1 and gave it a try.
It would crash and shut down after uploading a few pictures from my D300. Then I looked more and found 3.1.2, but the problem presisted.
Now this morning, I tried 3.1.3 and the problem is still there. Uploads about 9 pictures and then crashes. I think I'll be going back to 3.1.0 and just deal with the non-sorted sets

There's a keyboard bug in the OS X version of this uploader (possibly with other 3.x versions as well, but they haven't worked well enough for me to test them that far): the keyboard shortcuts work as though the keyboard layout was QWERTY, even if it isn't.
To clarify:
- I'm using a Dvorak keyboard layout instead of the common QWERTY-based layouts.
- When I try to copy selected text within the uploader, e.g. by selecting the tags I've typed in to one photo, and I press Command-C (the shortcut for “Copy”), the text isn't actually copied but the Edit-menu flashes as an indication that the shortcut has been activated.
- The only way for me to actually copy text with a keyboard shortcut, is to press Command-J (i.e. the location of the C-key on QWERTY keyboards). This causes the text to be copied, but the Edit-menu doesn't flash.
That is, the keyboard shortcut which should copy appears to copy, but doesn't, and the shortcut which should not copy does, but gives no visual confirmation of the action.
This applies to other keyboard shortcuts as well, e.g. I have to type Command-K to paste instead of Command-V. However, regular typing is unaffected. I can only assume that the handling of the keyboard shortcuts is done by keycode instead of by character, which breaks all non-matching keys on “alternative” (i.e. non-QWERTY) keyboard layouts.

Another flaw with the 3.x series of uploadrs is that editing “batch tags” by selecting all photos allows one only to add tags, not remove existing ones (even if shared by all selected photos).
That is, if I select all photos and add two tags, then select individual photos (proceeding to tag them with individual tags), and then decide that I want to remove one of the batch tags I added, I can no longer see this tag in the “Add to existing tags” field when I selected all photos again. This means that I have go through each photo separately to remove the tags.
A better way would be to display all shared tags for a selection of multiple photos, or even just going back to the old style interface where the batch settings always apply to all photos and are configured in a separate area.

@Senor Velasco: Some video formats were rejected in previous versions.
GStrader: "I downloaded the new version 2 times...nothing! I do not see anything to install."
Have you looked where your browser normally saves downloaded files? If it's unclear, you should be able to right click one of the files from the links in the top post and save the target file to a place where you choose.
de_coder: "It there any way to submit photos on specific groups with this version?"
No, I'm not aware of any upload applications that allow you to automatically have them go to a group.
JasonAndMelissa : "Odd....under the "Tools" menu, I see an "Add Ons" menu. It actually opens the AddOns dialogbox for FireFox."
The add ons menu looks the same in both applications. It's built so extensions can be created for it (there's a Hacking Uploadr group on Flickr for developers who are so inclined).
We'll have some more input and questions for members later on, thanks for the feedback, folks!

When you give that photo in your stream example a other title the same photo show in your stream for the second time when the uploader is ready..
