Better than the new recent activity page but still not as good as it was before, but you knpw that anyway.
Please though can we have the two links in the 'you' drop down menu? Have asked for this in various threads (all the official ones) and still havent got a yes or no. Unfortunately with Flickr, it might be coming 'soon' or it might not. :-(
Its at least a little less shitty.

Would still like to have the two different activity links on the home page (there is room). Also as has been mentioned a few times in previews threads, I want more options for the timeframe. In the old activity it was possible to show activity in exactly the # of days that I wanted. Now we're stuck with 7 not so great options.

Worse and worse. In addition to the "postdata" window still popping up when I refresh my Recent Activity tab on Firefox 2.0.0.18 (Mac OS 8.4.8), there is no way now to compress the Recent Activity options window. :-(

Much better, guys! Thanks! .... I hate to complain after all of the work you've done, but is there any plan in the works that will allow us to choose to see full comments from the activity page, instead of necessitating a trip to the actual photo page to read longish comments?

mimbrava: i believe the postdata window it will go away if you navigate to a different part of the site and then back to the activity page. For me i only got the postdata window after saving a setting in the activity. Once I had the settings the way I wanted i no longer got the postdata window.

It's definitely better from a user point of view yet I simply don't understand what was wrong with the previous separate pages. Despite this latest improvement, Recent Activity still looks (and feels) unnecessarily cluttered without bringing anything new as option to justify this messy switch.
Thanks though, it could have been much worse.

Honestly, I don't see very much difference. It is still complicated, in fact even more so. And it still says "Replies to my comments" which is not exact.
Edited to say "Comments since yours" is a more appropriate heading.

I like the changes.
Keep moving. keep improving.
Just a little point: When I see Recent Activity page there is down in blue:
Replies to my comments
I believe they are not only replies to my comments. There are other comments mixed there that aren't necessarily reactions to comments I did. When I first read it I thought with myself: wow they found a filter to select reactions on comments I did only.

Hey Paula, that isn't actually related to recent activity which this topic is about, your post is about a stats issue, so this is not the best topic for it. We are working on fixing discrepancies for what you see in stats versus the photostream number, but that won't be changed right away.

I'd like to have the links to 'activity on my items' and 'activity on items I've commented on' on the front page (even when my Recent Uploads are showing) - and in the drop down menu.
And yes 'Activity on my photos' and 'Replies to my comments' are poor descriptors. That doesn't help with usability (the main issue with the new homepage/activity page) in my opinion.

To mimbrava: You may want to see if there is a new version of Firefox for Macintosh. Chrisser, thank you for your idea, too, but I'm preferring for now to stick with Firefox 2.
I still don't like that I can't collapse the Recent Activities option window and agree with others that this and the Stats window (which can collapse) should go back to the Home Page, not stay on the Recent Activities page.

Not much difference, but I would like two know a couple of things:
First, in sort of a similar way to what Paula was mentioning but on a smaller scale, has the mismatch of views/comments/favs of an image listed on the Recent Activity page with the actual image's views/comments/favs been sorted out? It is rarely correct. And can even go up and down with no changes on the image.
Second, has cutting off a comment if there are more than ten lines of texts been fixed?
And third, since today's change was implemented, why couldn't adding more variety in the one hour, eight hour, one day, week timeframe be included when viewing activity? I commented in the closed thread, but the choices before the new Home Page was rolled out were so much better. Something like 1,2,4,8, 12, 24, 48 hours, 1 week, etc would be so much more useful when trying to find a comment or read them if you have a lot of them - which on occasion I do...

It is an improvement over the previous version, yet it doesn't bring the one click one every page functionality that was there before this mess/customer service nightmare was rolled out. Hopefully those responsible will meet the same fate as the CEO of Yahoo.
You also need to have some sort of better communication for users who don't really use the home page. Other sites notify people much better than flickr.

Much better, thanks for listening.
My only comment would be that in the filters box the headings, which uncheck or check all the options in that section, still look like headings and have no 'feedback' to indicate they are clickable. It's not a major thing but a small change to show these are functional links (just underline them on hover for example) that would help many people understand the UI better.

Thanks for the changes.
I still want:
- A more aesthetically presentable homepage. The present one is ugly and cluttered.
- Collapsible options box.
- More choices for time period to see comments
- The buddy icon of the person whose photo I am seeing when I am viewing the recent comments. We like to recognize immediately who the photo belongs to when viewing activity on comments made. Otherwise, why have a buddy icon if it is sometimes hidden!?!
- Complete comments seen at all times everywhere. Shortened comments means people will not want to go into the page and slow down viewing. Long comments, mine or others', can have interesting content but will not be seen completely if we all have to keep going into the photo page. That is not efficient.
Problem (added to the bug page):
When I go to page two after viewing replies to my comments on page one, I get recent activities to MY photos!! I tried a few times. Same thing.
edit: problem will be corrected.

Hi, I have one issue: You have left no option for me to view comments I've made on other people's photos. You have an option to view REPLIES to comments I've made on other people's photos... But what if no one has replied but I actually want to go back and view the comment or edit it or something????
Can you please add an EXTRA option that allows us to view the comments we've made, regardelss of whether someone has replied to them or not. Is this possible? It seems like a simple request.

Lali°: unless i'm not understanding your issue, the "Replies to my comments" does what you want, but maybe you have to change the timeframe to something longer to see that particular photo if no replies have been made in the current timeframe. "Since the beginning" for example would show all photos you've commented on.

Proggie: No, I think I'm not explaining myself. I want to be able to see comments I've made on people's photos even if no one EVER leeaves a comment on them after me. Does that make sense? Like if I comment on a photo of YOURS. And then three hours later I decide I want to go back to that comment and maybe added a P.S. or something. With the way recent activity is NOW, it would be hard for me to find the photo again, because it only shows the option: REPLIES to comments I've made to others photos. So what happens if no one has replied but I still want to go back and view my comment????
Am I explaining myself better?

I'd like to add that the way it was YESTERDAY, you could see all comments you've made, regardless of whether someone had replied or not. This is what i would like. To be able to see the comments I've made even if no one commented after me.

But that's the way "comments you've made" has always worked. You could never just see your comment if many other people have commented after you, and the display has always been that the most recent post to a photo you've made a comment on puts the photo 1st in your list.

Proggie: Pick any of my photos, leave a comment and I won't reply. Then go to your Recent Activity and you'll see that it doesn't appear there because I haven't "replie" to it. I think this is a big oversight on this new version.

Proggie: Are the pagination links broken, or not retaining proper scope (ie., you're on "custom" but then they switch to another bucket, eg. /activity/all/ or something?) The pagination links should always follow a /activity/[type]/page# pattern. If it's a bug, please report in the bug thread and I'll check it out!

Works great! Maybe it would be better to have the thumbnail version of a image instead of the squared version. Example:
Before:

After:

We've been living in a "wide screen" world with 1.49 aspect cameras since a while.
Now you also need to overhaul www.flickr.com/recent.gne for groups too to have the same look & feel.
Don't forget to add "Your topics / Topics you posted in" in the process and maybe add the "Pending photos" on yet another tab :-)

Thanks for taking a wee bit of time to get it right. Next time I will keep my eye peeled for a Beta test.
Is peeling an eye a good idea? Seems not so bright to me.
Edit:
I do have one suggestion that would make this baby really hum. Put the "more activities and options" botton on the main page. This way with one click you are ready to see 1) comments you made, 2) Comments by others, & 3) messages.
This would shred! To use a 1988 expression.

I would really like Flickr to give us back the option of using the Home Page as it was before October 16th. Why is this? Well apart from the fact that the New Comments on your own photos was completely separated from New Comments on photos you had commented on, you could also see the comments that you had made on other people's photos before any additional comments were made.
I have just been in the position where I wanted to check something that I had written on another person's photo and unless there is New Activity on that photograph, it would appear that I can't access it. Under the old system it was just one mouse-click away. Alles is not a happy bunny! :((((((((((

Alles Klaar: the update separates the two activities. When you go to the activity page there are tabs to switch between the two (and other) views. As for your other issue, see the discussion above: www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/85650/560037/

I don't know how Friends photos in my photostream came up as public. I marked them private or at least I thought my default was set to that. I don't know who is looking at these. I hope They are a friend or family of the people at this private party. Of course the settings will be changed as soon as the set loads. In the mean time, I fume!
Flickr you owe me an explanation! I know my shots are superb, but this is an imposition on the people's privacy

sandra: your photos are public, not private. Next time before you upload, you should check your uploader settings, or change your privacy settings and look at the setting for "Defaults for new uploads: Who will be able to see, comment on, or add notes". You can batch change the privacy setting of these photos using the Organizer on your most recent uploads.
If you have more problems with this, you should post another topic as this one is for the new activity changes and is not related to your issue.

Proggie - I just want back the view of Pictures that You Had Commented On as it was before. And as it was before ... if I commented on a picture, that comment would then be at the head of the queue if I switched to that View. Now unless someone comments on that pic - my comment seems to be unavailable to me.
Apart from the ability to be able to Mute a picture - which is great by the way - I don't want other options on the time frame as to how far back I want to see Pictures that You Had Commented On. In the old system if you felt the desire - and I occasionally did - you could go back through weeks of pictures without having to click onto any options apart from page numbers at the bottom of the page.

Although I still think its a complicated system, and I'm disappointed I have to mute and tick so many photos, the changes made from the non-beta version to this are great; a signifcant improvement.
I particularily like this link under Recent Activity: "You are viewing recent activity on your photos. More activity and options" which makes it much simpler to get to the various options.
I also like the ability to 'roll up" the different options. The groups area are needs work in selections (maybe a choice of which groups watched) for something in the future. I rarely look at it because its sort of useless, going instead to my group's page.
I'd like to see Family separated from Friends entirely in all aspects. Lots of family on here, and they come first, harder to do when mixed.
Only one other comment...should the color of "Your Photostream," "Your Friends and Family," etc...rather than blue, be PURPLE? ;>
Thanks for listening and upgrading.

Alles Klaar - i'm sorry, i don't understand what you mean by "the comment is unavailable" to you. You saying that when you go to your activity you don't see the photo you commented on, even after making the timeframe longer? Going back through weeks should still be possible if you change the timeframe to "Since the beginning", or does that not work for you? Or are we talking about different things?

At the present time, the acces from the homepage to what you call "more recent activity" (full activity page) implies a click on the "recent activity" button first if we have settled our preference to see "recent uploads" when we log in (which gives a more "photographic" look to our homepage). This intermediate step seems quite unnecessary.
I would add another important request :
show full comments on the activity page.
Please think at travellers or people not having a computer at home or people having acces only with slow connections or just to people who aren't addicted and do not access every hour to their stream or at the opposite to people having a very intense activity and comments exchanges.
Thank you very much for listening.
