erratic spacings in Safari

GustavoG says:

I noticed that frequently some column spacings are larger than they should, when viewing certain flickr pages via Safari:

The red ovals show the exaggerated spacings. For comparison, the green inset shows the same "group activity" view but using Firefox. The black inset shows a wider space in a group thread.

Safari 3.1.2 on OS X 10.4.11 - I think I observed the same on OS X 10.5.*.

Playing with the "current timeframe" selection, I just noticed that the wider spacing between the group icon and the group name occurs only when there is at least one "• New topic:" line. When all activity lines report on the number of new replies, the spacing is the correct one.

(All this in Safari, that is.)

Testing now with Safari 3.1.2 on OS X 10.5.5, I again observe the weird spacings, but they don't seem to correlate with the presence of "• New topic:" lines. Rather confusing.

I looked at those pages last nite, after I saw this posted. Didn't really have anything to add about it. I'm not seeing it. Ok. well, when the page first opens, there's an extra space, but it pops back to norm in a flash, right after page opens. It's just a very quick thing I wouldn't have noticed had I not been looking. I'm on Safari/OS X 10.5.5 as well. So yeah, not much to add, unless it helps to know not everyone is seeing it the same way. ;)

Thanks. Yeah, I don't see this consistently either, it's rather erratic.

One thing I neglected to mention is that this isn't anything new. I've been noticing these weird spacings for many months, never could make sense of them.
