I found it a bit confusing that the default timeframe in Activity Settings is "since the beginning" - it makes it look messy isn't what users are used to (two days, or last login). It's a lot easier to see what the page is showing you when you reduce the timeframe.

♥ shhexycorin ♥: Sorry if that page seems a bit confusing, it's more of a placeholder than anything else for your opt-out confirmation. The "Done for now" button is what really commits the change when clicked, taking you back to the old home page.
Once you have opted out, you can opt in again using the "psst.." link on the old home page.

Along the lines of what Lu is asking, has the "new" flag problem been fixed?
And, if you use the clear technique, what gets left as 'new' and what gets reset?
You used to be able to reset the new flag for groups and messages, etc
by typing
flickr.com/?clear=1

Other than toggling what you want to see on the recent activity page, it would be nice if there were still a way to get to separate listings of recent activity on your photos, vs. on comments you've left.

kellan wrote The concept of "new-ness" is fuzzy. Its *better* then it used to be, perfection is something we'll try to hone in on over the next few weeks. I guess that's partly what I was after. One of the first things I noticed was that the old "clear" code didn't clear all activity -- which is fine! I've always hoped it would become more specific, so that I could tell the system that yes, I'm caught up on new group discussions and they can reset now but I'm not caught up on activity on my own account, thanks. So maybe it's good that it's fuzzy for now -- I can keep hoping it'll unfuzz in just the right way :)

Or not so good ... I can't seem to clear my group activity at all! That makes it hard for me, if I'm working online for extended periods (which I often am, for jobs that need a lot of fact-checking or reference-checking, or when I'm teaching distance ed), I can't drop into Flickr for a few minutes, catch up, and then do it again -- as quickly -- a few hours later later, without shutting my browser down.

Not happy with the way that Explore/Everyone's Photos etc keep rotating. Also miss seeing my own images - I could work around that, but it was easier to go directly to my images with the old system. But the Explore rotating thing is a pain. Is there a way to lock it down? Believe it or not, some of us don't look at Explore in anything approaching any form of regularity.

True, you can minimize Explore/Groups/Everyone, but I enjoy looking at what's been posted recently by others. That has helped me make some amazing friends on Flickr. Minimizing Explore/Groups ALSO minimizes Everyone's Photos. While I have a few images in Explore, I don't look at it at all, and would just like to lock in, and see, what has been posted by other users.

It seems like users with a long username cause the 5-images-across on the new page to only be 4 across with the next image broken down on to a new line.
Also there doesn't seem to be any details of "new posts/replies to your groups" link on the new homepage, so I've not got any idea that there are new posts/replies". I have to click "groups activity" to see what has happened since I last checked. Maybe it's just because nothing new has happened since I last logged in?
Oh, and does Flickr not love us any more? The "Flickr Loves You" logo has just become "Flickr"...?!

.schill, is that "more recent activity" page linked to from the new homepage or only once you've clicked "Recent Activity" on my photostream and then scrolled right the way down past all that activity to click on "More recent activity"? It'd seem to make sense to have a link to that on the homepage, as it's the only way you can see when there are replies to other users photos which you've commented on.
Also on the "More recent activity" page a long username appears to force the comment text down below the image instead of being aligned to the right of it (in IE7 in Vista).
And, whilst on comments and the activity pages, I see there are "add comment" and "mute activity" links now. How about a "mark as read" one too? I don't really want to keep seeing activity that I've already seen and want to be able to effectively mark something as "seen" or "read" once I've seen it, but only once I've marked it as so (so as I can maybe go back to it a few days later and comment again on the photo/respond to the posters reply they've made to me)

PERFECT!
I can view the muted photos, and then individually unmute them.
Just what we were all asking for.

I interpreted the link wording to mean that checking the box would unmute all the previously muted images. Not that it would simply make them visible for new choices to be made.

I'd really like to have the option to see comments I've made on other peoples photos back seperatly. I love the mute option but I want to quickly see what's happened on my photos and then see what others are saying about the photos I've commented on.
Other than that on first impression it looks good. I think there is a bit too much white space on the bottom right and I'd perhaps consider moving the Explore box to just below the rotatable field.

I think I've found a bug (or a major design flaw). On the more activity page (and it's pretty hard to get there - first you have to click the link for recent activity, which just hides your recent uploads and shows your activity -- then you have to click "show more activity" to get to the page with the settings, should you want to toggle between your comments and comments other's have made on your stream):
Once you've finally found your way to the more activity page, there are two boxes on the right: the box for the activity settings and the stats box. When I get to that page, I toggle the little triangle to collapse the stats box because I don't care about my stats. I then fiddle with some settings in the activity box and click save. This changes the settings AND opens up the stats box. I again click the little triangle to minimize the stats box. I look through the activity on that page and then move to page two of my activity (that sounds so dirty) and lo-and-behold, the stats box is open again.
In short - would you please fix the toggle on the stats box so it stays collapsed.

Don't like the change to "recent activity."
It seems that when someone makes comments to a photo that I've commented on, even if I made my comment 6 months ago, it's included in recent activity. Why?
It also appears that all comments are know included in one recent activity stream, as opposed to the prior method of viewing comments people made on my photos and the comments I made on others photos as two separate lists. It's now a jumbled mass and difficult to tell why there is an entry.
Yikes what a mess....

SimUK, RubyMae: The "more recent activity" link is shown only under the "recent activity" section, correct. Having a "filters" link somewhere else pointing at the activity settings section may make sense - we currently show something along these lines in one exceptional case.
Furthermore on the stats box not staying closed, that sounds like a bug - it's possible it could be temporary, I'll verify and start digging if it's a reproducible issue on my end.
ColleenM: "Show previously muted items" simply reveals those items, and makes them available for un-muting if you will. I think it would be confusing if one checkbox such as that were to undo your entire "mute" history, for example.

On page 82 of my recent activity it tells me that 2 people made me their contact, and says this happened 6 weeks ago. Except that it happened about 3 years ago.
So the time frames are wrong for these 2 items. Doesnt matter in itself, but now i cant believe the other times on other stuff.
Is it just wrong for added contact stuff?
Hope this makes some sense.
EDIT
yep, all the times for when people added me as acontact are incorrect.
