Having recent activity all lumped together on the same page, despite the option to switch between activity on your items and other people's items, is rather annoying. If it was a one-click toggle it wouldn't matter too much, but the setting and saving of options is too cumbersome a process.

It looks way too cluttered to me, I wish the icons were smaller all around with an overall clean look like the old one had.
I also don't like the upload link being so large, the blog being so big (I can't say I've ever actually read the flickr blog and don't have interest in it... I should at least be able to turn it off) and the thing that shows recent photos from groups is annoying and I want to turn that off too.

I have to admit that I would prefer to toggle between what happens on my photos and what happens on comments I've made on other people's photos without having to hit a Save button -- just a switch in views would be preferable.
And I, too, would like a refresh link on the Groups widget.
Other than that -- can I say again that I just LOVE this?

Stats graphic/link dealy - very nifty!
Recent Activity on my photos mixed with comments I've left - meh, so so.. learning to like it.. Kind of liked the separation, BUT Muting is awesome.
Group photos - very SNAZZY. I have a lot of groups I often neglect checking and this will help a lot. This is probably the best new feature - totally exposing us to new photos we already have interest in.

I *really* like it! I think that the ability to toggle onto or off different sections is very helpful and I like the flickrBlog having a proper stream to one side. Seeing more than just four of your contacts images on the homepage is also something I am very, very, very pro.
I think in general everything is much easier to navigate. I do miss the little updates box telling you if you had any new messages, testimonials, find your friends etc though. Will that make a reappearance in some form?
Overall though, great job!

Initial thoughts:
I don't like that there is no differentiation between "my activity elsewhere" and "comments on my account" in the 'recent activity. It also feels cluttered in that view (although I like the information in it).
Upload link is too big - I don't think I have used the web form other than for testing purposes in 4 years. I don't want to have to stare at a great big version of it every day.
Flickr Blog link:
Not really sure that should be on the home page unless:
1: It is updated much more regularly (this seems to be kind of happening)
2: I can turn it off/make it go away.
I like the fact that there is more available on the home page, just not that I have to have it there...
Maybe a check box for which ones you want? Like the Google home page deal? I can't have the stuff I want on there and not scroll, which is annoying, especially when there is so much wasted (ie not of interest to me/unavailable) space on the right of the page.

Nice lay out. I like being able to mute photos that I don't want to be updated on any longer , but I did like from the old home page that the comments I've made on other peoples photos and recent activity on mine were separated out. I don't like how the two are now mashed together.

It looks great BUT... Recent Activity isn't so good. Two problems:
1. I really don't want to see "stuff I've commented on" merged in with activity on my photos. I appreciate I can mute photos one by one but I've commented on thousands in the past so that would take me forever. Please let me split them!!
2. Where's the little yellow "NEW" gone?! Someone must have underestimated how addictive that thing is. Losing it is like losing a limb. Please please PLEASE bring it back!!

I love the left column, but the right column seems to be a waste of space that could be better utilized. All I see is "upload," "flickr blog" and "share what you know," which barely meets the top of "Your Contacts" on the left column.
It does seem like your UI designer is trying not to overload the home page with a ton of photo content and stick to more textual content on the right column, so maybe it'd be cool if there was another widget on the left called "recent comments" (or move recent activity over here)? That would be a convenient view, since ego (comments) is one of the big driving factors of Flickr's socialness :)

perhaps a little messy now
1 big gripe though is the recent activity, it's now a mess of information
how about letting us specifiy a period to look at - ala google analytics
also in the stats, why can't we look at a specific defined period - often i'll see a big spike in traffic but unable to find out why

Ugh. Too cluttered, too "lefty" (I preferred photos on the right, weird brain thing), I really dislike not having the separate "Comment You've made" and "Recent Activity" pages, I dislike the scant feel of some of the pages, and I dislike the slow loading times.
If there was an option for everything so I could select just some features (like recent group pictures, ignore activity, few other things) and leave off others (combined recent activity page, left orientation, annoying blog link, ever more white then before ;_; ) that would be great. I really dislike most of this stuff.
I only thank Zod that it's just the homepage (as far as I know). IF it spread to the rest of the site... ick.
Sorry to be so negative. :P

Ok, looks quite messy, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
But I really don't like mixing recent activity on my photostream with the comments I've made. I get so little activity on my stream that it gets lost among all the activity on other people's photos - especially if I'm away from Flickr for a few days. But I still would like to follow the comments I've made too, without having to fiddle with settings every time.

In general, the layout is much better than the old layout...
Best Feature : Mute button to stop following photos
Worst Feature : Changing your settings everytime to see your own recent activity or comments you've left for others. What used to take one click now takes several. It took me a few minutes to actually figure out how to see my own recent activity again. It's not very evident.

It is interesting if you are using a netbook (like an eee pc) or a mobile device as you changed the most used links to the left.

I really like the way My Photos, Contacts and Groups are shown.
It feels like diving straight in, in a good way.
However:

I'd prefer to have the indication of new items in group discussions linked from the front page, as before.
I don't like the way a one of my groups is displayed randomly - I'd either prefer not to have this, or to be able to select one or more groups that I follow more closely
I'd prefer not to have the Flickr blog and the tips below it on the front page
stuff like "Nothing new here recently. Bored?" might seem friendly the first few times but you soon get tired of it - I'd prefer just to see the links

And I like the toggle mode, and I just LOVE the mute thingie, since this is something I have been waiting for for ages!
I don't care much for the Groups and Explore at the bottom, but that's just me. I am one to mostly look at my contacts' streams and don't stroll around so much.

I'm underwhelmed.
The "Explore" and groups section is more useful than "everyone's uploads" was, and a direct link to the stats is nice, but that's my only positive reaction.
"Recent activity" might be useful if it only showed activity on my photos, but there's no way to differentiate between comments left for me and those left elsewhere (that I can see). And I've never really be interested in following comments on other people's photos, mostly because real conversations never seem to happen in photo threads. It'd be much more useful to be able to follow group threads, a function that doesn't seem to exist (to my knowledge).
I suppose I like the extra space given to contacts photos, but that's another feature I've always found kind of useless - the five photo limitation on updates and inability to set any kind of timeframe kills it. Though that's more a criticism of contacts than the home page.
As home pages go, I guess I'm just not seeing it as a big improvement. In terms of the things I'd want out of a home page, it's not doing anything more to notify me of the things I want to be notified of, it's not a good overview of what's happened since last I logged in, and it doesn't help me navigate - most of the places I want to go are still buried behind two or more clicks.
It's not *bad*... I just find myself going "that's it?". And it really just highlights long standing weaknesses with the rest of Flickr - rearranging the deck chairs doesn't feel like much of an improvement of anything.

Back again, decided to give another whirl. It's not great, the stuff I look at should all be on the right, or I should be able to ditch all of the blog/news stuff that I never read from my homepage totally and put mine and my contacts photos back on the right, the left is just wrong. Also, I am not getting the yellow new icon either, and another vote here for separating out comments on my stuff vs my comments on others stuff.
I will be reverting back, but I am guessing it's just a matter of time before that option is removed. Don't get me wrong, I love the widget approach, but if you are going to do it, do it properly and let us add, remove and move stuff around properly, and I mean everything.

A lot of wasted blank white space on the right.
Everything else is biased to the wrong side. Is this some new leftist conspiracy?
All we ever wanted was the background to be black as an option, and our own photos to be bigger than everyone elses, at least on our own homepage.

I like the changes on a whole, especially the latest pics from groups as I often forget about the groups. And I like that you can toggle the view of different areas.
However I don't like that the frontpage which used to fit my screen now is two screens high. That takes away the clean feeling Flickr has had until now which has been what I like about it. You know Flickr has been a bit like Google "not so much mess on the front page but a lot to explore behind it" which is a relief in a stressed world. I might get used to it, but it may also be the reason I get fed up with it.
And what I really, really, really don't like about it is that not only do I have to toggle between Recent Uploads and Recent Activity which I suppose I could live with as I probably know what I've uploaded, but more importantly all the comments on all of the photos I've ever commented is mixed with the comments on my pics.
I - like most people - don't have a lot of free time on my hands, and when I have some I might just have a tiny bit at a time. Looking through those massive amounts of comments to find comments on my own pics that I need to reply to will take ages instead of just being a question of a quick peek.
I'm being stubborn here, but this tiny little thing actually makes me wonder if extending my pro-account was such a good idea at all... and yesterday I wouldn't even have questioned it :(

Very nice, Getting used to it. Agree that my comments and others comments should be separated. And bring back the little yellow 'NEW'!

Heather, does Flickr have any intentions to make changes on the layout according to these reactions or do we waste our time giving our opinion here?
I recall many layout changes in the past, minor or major, and members end up getting used to them and forget all about what they thought it was better. What's the big deal?

It's much better showing more recently uploaded photos. However I'm very disappointed that flickr still has not adopted a 1024 format. I'm on 1280 and the photo previews look minuscule.
