my contacts cannot see them in their thumbnail contact pages
if for some reason they just go to my stream, they can see the video, but it does not show up on their contact page
I am posting .mov files which have been less than 10mb
This happens whether I have sound on the video or not
My privacy settings allow anyone to see them and any flickr member to comment and I have tried both full copyright and cc.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, what is the solution?

I have pasted the other conversation here just for reference.
My problem is the opposite of what this help topic says - it is my contacts' ability to see my recent uploads - and only videos - the problem does not apply to still images.
I have no problem seeing my contacts' uploads (at least that I know about), but my contacts are telling me they cannot see my video uploads, even many hours after they are fully uploaded.

You haven't uploaded a video in several days it appears. It may have just been out of sync before your next upload. Try uploading another one and see if they notice it. If you think there is a problem still, be specific in who says it does not appear (and don't upload a photo right away if possible). Thanks!

It will be most useful to Flickr staff if they know exactly which accounts can't see your photos. Is it all of your contacts or only some of them?

Hi Kevin,
I have had a lot of problems over the last few months with contacts not showing up in my contacts stream. (And suspicions that my photos are not showing up in friends streams - based on their lack of response... and I have logged on to my daughter's account and seen that to be the case).
Below is two links to screen grabs on taken last friday and one taken today. They show "the same" contacts pages on different days. I have included the day and time on the top left hand corner. You can see that by tuesday a lot more contacts pics have turned up in between the ones that were visible on Friday.
I check my Flickr account from several computers in my office, several at home, PC and Mac, so it would seem that the problem is not related to any hardware or software issues at my end.
As I say, this has been happening for months and it most annoying. Can this be fixed?
I changed the upload date of the two images to a year ago, so they won't show up in my lastest photostream...

For the past 7 days I have this problem. Still SOME of contacts( e.g Helminadia & unlimited inspirations' ) are unable to view my recent uploads. Even today's upload. Pl. do something.

Thanks for the detail on those ones suchitaprints- we'll point the developers over to the examples. Do they never get the latest that you know of?
alison lyons photography- Thanks for the grabs. Photos will "fill in" sometimes if privacy changes are made that would permit you to see them, and the batch contact process can miss some, that it picks up again on the next update. Do you know of any that never get updated?
@Gary*- It looks like it's likely updated for them by this time, but if you can post an example of someone you know doesn't see it, it would be great. (I'm just catching up after being away for several days, but I don't think we had a site wide update stopper in that time.)

I am unable to see my boyfriend's most recent uploads. His user name is Ben, just Ben. I scrolled back as far as page 9 in 'most recent uploads' for my contacts and he *never* shows up despite regularly updating his photo stream. If I click over to showing only family & friends, he's where he should be on the first page given that his most recent uploads are from 9/7.
This has actually been ongoing for some time and I've noticed it from my work and home PC.

i'm sorry to see that this situation persists...i found deleting contacts and re-adding them was an effective band aid solution to this problem when it cropped up over a year ago... it's not a effective fix if you have more than a handful of contacts and i have no idea how or why this worked or if is still does...but it's worth a shot...good luck

Thanks for the feedback. I can't pin point whether there are any that don't show up. It is more that there is a delay and it can be a couple of hours or it can be a couple of days. I know it is hard to identify the problem if it is intermitent. I appreciate what you are saying about privacy issues and that might be the case with some of the contacts. But I am not talking about one or two, here or there. Sometimes it is a lot of my contacts, all over the same period of time. I dunno, maybe 50 or 60 images.
Also, if my daughter (in the next room) logs onto my stream and can't see the latest photo, (that I have uploaded several hours earlier) that is clearly visible on my computer, then it cannot be attributed to the settings.
I have had a couple of contacts say "welcome back", when I haven't been away and have been posting regularly.
I know this is all anecdotal, and when I have more time, I will try to give you some specifics.
The screen grabs I provided were merely an example. That is, I had an inkling last Friday that there was a problem, but I didn't really know until I did a later screen grab of the same "page" a few days later that i saw considerably more images had dropped in.
There are a few indicators:
1. My contacts stream seems to not update very often and I realise there are not too many different names showing up. And some of my "regulars" i.e. the ones that post every day are absent.
2. Comments on my photos are unusually few and far between.
3. When one of my contacts (who hasn't appeared for a day or two) shows up. I click on their latest (thinking they are back) only to find that they have posted photos on the previous couple of days.
4. If I flick back several pages, sure enough those images have now appeared in the stream chronologically in the right place.
At first I thought I was perhaps not noticing their earlier postings, which is why I started to take screen grabs.
My Flickr page is my home page on my Browser, so it is always open and I check it regularly, so I am aware of the progress of the postings. I mean its not like I just log once at the end of the day.
There are times when this problem doesn't occur. And certainly, last year I wasn't aware of it. If I thought this was just how Flickr is, I'd cop it on the chin. But it is sporadic. I do go through periods of Flickring that are trouble free. I am also aware that I am not alone in this, I have dropped in and out of the forum for months looking for solutions and seen that there are others who are experiencing the same/similar problem.
When there are children in Africa starving, it seems inappropriate and petulant to whinge about "my contacts" not showing. It is a niggle not a problem of world-class proportions, but it does (has made) my Flickr experience less than desirable.

I suspect my contacts list may be stuck again, as well as having no views on my newly uploaded photo so I suspect no one can see it, several of my contacts most recent photos aren't showing as I write.

Hi Kevin
I have a background in web development and i do understand the need for details to get to the bottom of things, and i can only imagine exactly how complicated the issue is with user numbers on the scale of flickr, so i have had a lot of patience over the last year of experiencing this situation.
BUT surely you guys must know everything about this problem by now from the THOUSANDS of posts on this and the previous threads on similar subjects.
Staff have informed us that the problem has been resolved a number of times (i can't recall the exact reply, but it was along the lines of 'some offline tasks failed') but it keeps on happening
i'm only bothering to write now in the hope that if enough of us do so, the matter will be escalated to someone who can authorise the resources to deal with it properly

My contacts haven't updated for the last few hours.
Seems this is broken yet again, and along with the slow (l.yimg.com) server it's all becoming rubbish and a bit of a drag. Why can't you people not fix all these problems?? ..... it's just ridiculous.

I agree with the recent posts. To be specific because you ask us to be specific; my contacts' photos has remained unchanged for the past 4 hours and this is abnormal since I have nearly 300 contacts. This problem seems to occur more on Wednesdays.

I have been online on flickr for 2 hours and photos of my contacts that I can see in their personal photo stream are still not showing in my contacts section. No-one is commenting on mine either so I assume the same is true of mine! This is not "every few minutes" at all.

Same issue here with non-updating contacts. The test page shows that Farm 2 East and Farm 4 East have red x's. I'm in Ontario, Canada.

Yep once again we are having the problem. Its wednesday again too, I seem to remember this occurring mid week on many of the occasions.
Xeres2k, you might think a company with millions of customers would have developers who work other than 8-5? This issue happens all too often to not have somebody who can fix it 24/7.

We all started out being polite and patient, but its happened so many times now that its not surprising people are getting frustrated.
The point i want to make, with so many million customers, and a lot of us paying for a service, it's not good enough customer service to 1) make out each time that its a new problem when its clearly not, and 2) ask for patience for your support staff to turn up and look at it in PST office hours. It's been going on for many months now, can it please be escalated to someone who can authorize the time and money be spent to find a proper permanent solution, not just one that lasts till next week.

When this happens now, it's using a much different system than that which we had prior to last February. But we have to rely on a lot of databases to do heavy lifting for all sorts of tasks on Flickr, this is one of them and databases can get behind. We don't like it when they do, and work to keep them in line as much as possible. Flickr is a very complicated system, and work to try and find better ways to do things, and making these this less prone to falling behind is something we are working on making better.

Just to clarify, we've got operations staff in AU who have been working on this for several hours, and have had local ops guys joining it as well a few hours ago as well. We are sorry there wasn't a Forum update in that time, but we do want you to know there are more people working on Flickr than those that come in to our physical office. This has affected a number of other things member facing and not, but the database lags that is causing this will be tamed soon. Thanks.

While is true that the pre-February system was even worse, its also true that this has been happening with regularity for several months. Each time it seems to be when the PST staff is not around and each time it takes several (many) hours to fix.
I realize the system is incredibly complex, but this is a predictable issue, or it sure should be by now. The question many of us have is why it takes so long for staff to get a handle on and fix what is a recurring problem. Its hard to believe there are not "warning signs".
Many times you have said you have plenty of hardware/horsepower to handle all the Flickr systems. But the regular repetition of this bug seems to argue against that.

ok, I've kept quiet the last few times this happened, but this is just getting ridiculous! I agree with  . I find it hard to beleive that there aren't identifiable warning signs. I started noticing since monday that a couple of my contacts' pictures that were hours and days old were popping up on the front of the list of my contacts' pictures page. I had a gut feeling that the system was going to crap out again. then this morning, my contacts' photos page completely froze.
note to admins, you're not running a beta product. It is absolutely inexcusable for this to occur over and over and over again. perhaps you should consider putting a beta tag under the flickr logo since you seem to be going backwards in your development. alternatively, there is a rich pool of talented developers in the bay area. perhaps you should consider bringing some of them on board to fix this issue since your current staff can't seem to fix it.

kev, i really do understand what you say when you give a valid technical reason like that, but please step back and see the bigger picture and the users perspective, whether its a different back-end system in place or not isn't really the issue, to us it's just the same problem, over and over and over again.
And i'm not expecting you to work miracles here, like scotty in the engine room of the enterprise, but the directors and accountants of flickr need to know that 'the engines canna take it captain, we need more power'.
