I can't seem to find where I logout of my account. They've taken the option away from the top of the screen.

Can someone please tell me where they've moved it to?

Thanks

What doesn't work for you? Hovering over the icon? Clicking the sign out option?
What browser are you using? Can you try a different one?

Nope, that doesn't work for me.

So if you hover over your buddy icon in the top right corner, you don't see a drop-down menu that includes Sign Out as one of the options?

Or do you mean nothing happens or you get an error if you click Sign Out?

Edited to add: Patrick beat me to it :-)

Old Fogey 1942 says:

Is there a misunderstanding about HOVERING here? Just move your cursor there (don't click) which shows the submenu the above correspondents refer to. Sign out is at the bottom, move the cursor down to it and now click (and not before). If you click on the icon it just takes you to settings (the first item). Failing that, follow Patrick's and Jane's avice.

Does no-one else find it confusing that one cannot find 'account' but 'setting'. Took me a while.

I think the new buddy icon on your nav bar is intended to represent an "account" menu as well as providing a visual indication as to which account is currently signed in.

Just checked my system(Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit). For me the drop down DOES NOT appear when I hover over the buddy in Chrome(Version 24.0.1312.52 m). The drop down DOES however work just fine in Firefox(17.0.1).

Yes, of course you get to your 'account' when you click 'setting', but before I understood 'account' was under 'setting', I had been looking all over the bar. Well, certainly it does not bother me any more as now I'm 'in the know' :)
Yes, Patrick, I understand now that the buddy icon represents 'account'.

This is an acknowledged bug (Windows 7/Chrome) that flickr has yet to fix. I would advise you to add your voice to the official bugs thread for the new navigation to bring it to staff's attention.

I have the same problem. As Corey Cradle I'm using Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit with Chrome(Version 24.0.1312.52 m). The drop down menu doesn't appear when I hover over the buddy icon at the top right. It does work in windows internet explorer.

Is there a problem with Flickr on the new version of Chrome?

Apparently, yes. In the official thread, staff acknowledged it, but said they couldn't reproduce it. You may want to post in that thread.

As the post above yours notes, you need to post in the official new navigation bug thread so staff can take note that this is still an existing problem: www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157632231153400/

Corey Cradle, Stocktonlad:

I was wondering if you two could do us a favor with tracking down this issue. What we’d like to know is if you’re seeing your browsers output any errors in their developer consoles. Here’s instructions on how to bring those up:

Firefox:
1. Press control-shift-J
2. Click on “Errors”
3. Click back into your Firefox browser window, and either click on the Flickr logo or go to www.flickr.com
4. Try to open a menu

Chrome:
1. Press control-shift-J (if the “Console” tab isn't active, please click on it)
2. Back in the browser part of the window, either click on the Flickr logo or go to www.flickr.com
3. Try to open a menu

In both cases, do any error messages appear? If so, please copy and paste them here. This will give us something to track down in this very mysterious problem.

One other thing, could you tell me what happens when you’re on a page – including this very one you’re looking at! – and you press tab a bunch of times? You should see lots of things get keyboard focus, and eventually this will get to the logo and then it should step through each menu and each menu item. Is that what you see? Or do the menus still refuse to open?

Phil

When I press "Flickr" I get the following error message:

Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL www.flickr.com/ from frame with URL ff.connextra.com/servlet/controller?service=Yahoo_GB_Get1.... Domains, protocols and ports must match.
wcid.js:1
When I go to the "You", Contacts" and "Buddy Icon" I get no error meesages (I note that the drop down menu flashes for a brief moment before disappearing again).
When I go to the "Groups" and "Explore" I get similar error massages re Unsafe Javascript attempt access frame etc.

When I press tab it scrolls through each of the main menu items and the drop down menus appear and tabbing scolls through the drop down menus.

Hope this helps

That's one way to go. OR...

In the official thread about the new navigation bar, Staff has provided links to opt-out of the new bar (and return to the old navigation):

Opt-out: flickr.com/temporary_nav_opt_out/
Opt-in: flickr.com/temporary_nav_opt_in/

(Temporary links until staff can figure out what the issue is.)

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but when I press the Flickr logo, I go to my photostream.

When I hover over my account button, no words appear ... no menu .... nothing. When I press on it, I go to my account setting section. No where in my account settings am I given the option to log out. (I am on Windows 7 home/chrome).

Seems like a temporary fix while you're working out the hover thing would be to just insert a 'logout' button at the top of the first page in Account Settings, if nothing else.

Oscurah:

I just re-read the whole thread; not a hint of rudeness. Lots of helpful suggestions or prompts for more information.
A subset of (Chrome?) users are having some issues with the new menu system. Staff have provided some links that let you opt out of those menus as a temporary workaround. In a different thread another user postulated that in some circumstances the browser is getting confused and treating the Flickr session as though it was running on a touch screen device (hence the mouse hover is ignored).

Oscurah:

No, no rudeness here to speak of, it can be easy at times to read inflection into the written word that is just not there, it is a matter of interpretation, I see initial confusion on the part of some, not rudeness.

Patrick Costello:

The touch screen thing seems very promising, still no reports of testing by others. I guess those who have opted out have little need to return to the help forum? Of course, those that use a touch screen and a mouse may need some code adjustment or will continue to need the opt-out option.

Just on a minor note; I just tried this on an Android device with a touch screen and Chrome and either clicking or tapping the buddy icon drops the menu down - hovering does nothing, but you can still get at the log out option.

On a touch screen device you don't hover - you tap. That's how the nav bar works on my iPad, at least.

The Ewan says:

On the one I used you can sort-of do both - it was a tablet with a mouse plugged in. In that setup the hover did nothing, but both a screen tap and a mouse click worked to pop the menu down.

Having had a read of Alexis Birkill's excellent post, I would guess that Flickr is correctly responding to both taps and clicks on a real touch screen device because they've detected it as a touch screen/mobile device, whereas in the problem case Flickr are treating it as a non-touch system, so expecting a hover, and Chrome isn't showing it a hover because it's working in touch screen mode.

Another thing that would be interesting would be to try this in various browsers on a touch enabled Windows 8 desktop system, but there aren't many of them around yet.

Hi all! We were finally able to replicate the problem in-house and I’ve now deployed a fix. If everyone affected could please opt back into our new navigation and let us know if the problem is solved for you.

Thank you for hanging in there while we tracked down this issue, it was quite a subtle combination of problems that triggered the problem.

Also, I would be very interested to know more about your computer setups if you were affected. Namely, do you have a touchscreen or Wacom tablet?
