Until you get this resolved, you can get to your mailbox by typing mail into the searchbox just right of upload and left of your buddy icon and then click on flickrmail at the bottom of that dropdown list. Are you able to use the dropdown menus under You, Contacts, Groups, and Explore?

Lots of letter combinations will bring up Flickrmail, if you type them in the Search box at upper right:
"f"
"il"
"k"
"l" (lowercase L)
"ma"
(and probably others).

I have reported (three weeks ago) in the Official Bugs Thread that the menu disappears, but only if my cursor moves down and to the left. If I move my cursor straight down from the avatar to the menu, it works.
As far as I can tell, staff didn't acknowledge my report.

Glad you found a solution but it should work that way. You may want to start a new thread in this forum, and title it "[bug] can't access dropdown menu for flickmail." I don't think staff is monitoring this thread but they might see a separate bug report.
Make sure in your post to describe your system and browser; that will help staff trouble-shoot the problem.

That sounds very frustrating. Can you say what browser you're using (and what version)? It might be that your browser is out of date or not supported by Flickr.
("Supported by" generally means that they've used it when testing new page code, to make sure it works. They don't test in all browsers, or in all versions of browsers; just the latest versions of IE, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.)

Okay, that's a good start (to narrowing down the issue). I've noticed several Chrome users in the past few weeks having issues with Flickr.
Is it possible you're not using the latest stable version of Chrome, but instead using one of the dev versions?
Do you have any addons running in Chrome (disable them to see if that's the issue)?

Sending Flickr email is not clear.
When I click on the envelope icon of a Flickr member I get the drop down box asking for email address. What email address? It used to be automatic when I clicked on the "yellow" envelope icon of my Flickr Contact and I could lthen type a message.

The envelope you're clicking is the "share" envelope. This is not for flickrmail.
For flickrmail, either follow the directions that Patrick listed above, or hover over your icon in the upper right hand corner of the page and then click on "flickrmail" when the drop down menu appears.

Sounds like you have a problem with your browser. Try clearing the cache. Try testing with a different browser.
In the meantime, it is very easy to open your mail - just append mail to the flickr url:

You can also type f in the search box to get a flickrmail link to appear.

This is a TOTAL NIGHTMARE.
I want to go back to view a Flickr message, but if I hover my mouse over my icon (which wins the award for the most anti-intuitive action ever to disgrace an application) nothing happens.
If I click on the icon, a drop-down menu appears very briefly but even if I do manage to click on 'FlickrMail', it simply goes to my account settings.
The 'email and notifications' tab then shows me my settings for my email, not my FlickrMail.
FAIL.

It seems that no one is curious about how you send a Flickrmail. I can't figure out how to do it with the new system. I'd like to send one right now, with a photo attachment on it, but even if I could do this, I have no assurance that the recipient would ever know it had arrived or how to open it. The nerds of Flickr need to hire a few normal people, to handle matters like this.

So far, I think you're the first one who's reported this. (For example, I'm having no trouble sending Flickrmail; it works the same as before.)
" I can't figure out how to do it with the new system. I'd like to send one right now, with a photo attachment on it"
Flickrmail has never had attachments. It's not email; it's just an internal messaging system. You can, however, send a link to a photo via Flickrmail.

Hi Patrick! Hover over the buddy icon in the top right for a drop-down menu. Some people have had that drop-down menu fail though, especially in Chrome (staff are still trying to figure out why, it seems, as there's no obvious commonality, and for most of us it seems fine). I don't know what Flickr has done to totally screw up everything but I will not be renewing. I've not been able to access my website on any of my computers except the desktop. It was very annoying to find this out when I was on the road for two months and couldn't upload any travel shots. There was also no way to contact anyone. Any email address I used wanted me to set up a new Yahoo/Flickr account. I've never had this problem before--but it's a huge problem now and one that has cost me money. I will switch over entirely to Pbase--which I highly recommend. Pbase costs the same as "pro" and is much more professional.

To find your flickrmail in the new design - look at your avatar in the upper right hand corner.
Be sure to constantly check it, or you'll never see it. I've not once had flickrmail and noticed it before it is forwarded to my own email. I know we are long past the beta testing phase, but it does seem really dumb that the major internal communication method on the site is so ...incidental? Non-prominent?
The boat has probably sailed in terms of a redesign, but I still - many months later - think it is a horrible step. Terrible design. Sorry, and all that, but it still makes zero sense to me unless they are fazing out flickrmail.

I usually just hover over my buddy icon in the top right hand corner & can then choose flickrmail or log out.
Is anyone having this problem?
If someone sends me a mail I can see a number (1) if one mail is there.
I can then click on this to view the mail, but I am currently sending out voting reminders to members of my groups & I wanted to check the link in the mail to see if it's working.

Thank you for hanging in there while we tracked down this issue, it was quite a subtle combination of problems that triggered the problem.
Also, I would be very interested to know more about your computer setups if you were affected. Namely, do you have a touchscreen or Wacom tablet?
