renewing pro account

Primrose_girl  Pro User  says:

I can't renew my pro account, very time I click renew, my my mcfee security tells me it's a dangerous site! Anyone else had these problems?
Last year I also had problems. in that my visa card was hacked straight after renewing ( which I had trouble doing, it took three goes! ) so I am loathe to ignore the warnings from my virus checker!

I'm pleased you got sorted, but it is a pity that this should happen. I do hope that staff can look into this anyway.

Stuff like this is generally an overactive antivirus/security program. False warnings are not uncommon. Pretty sure I've heard that McAfee does this a lot.

Yes, I know. But who knows, Flickr may be able to do something to eliminate such warnings.

I am having trouble renewing my pro account too. it seems to be stuck on the place order screen. when i click I agree, Place Order some tiny text pops up for about 1 second and I have no idea what it says. And then nothing happens.

True, by eliminating any outward URL - but that might annoy more than it helps. :-)

Do all outward URL's trigger an anti-virus event?

For me they don't. It depends on (1) which anti-virus software you use, (2) how recently/accurately that software updated its virus definitions, (3) the strictness of the settings applied by the user, and (4) whether the site in question actually contains malicious code.

(I am using Avast! freeware for anti-virus.)

Thanks Wil. I'm also using Avast! I can't imagine that every URL would be blocked by any anit-virus program, but I guess it is possible. Never did like McAfee or Norton.

I've never had a problem with any Flickr pages. I use AdAware, Avast, MalwareBytes, Spybot and Windows Defender.

Flickr doesn't need to make any changes. Their site doesn't trigger any warnings from any of those 5 packages.

However, I do know how to manage my user settings, and set up my filters. I can limit the number of false alarms by tweaking the software to match my uses.

All those software packages are initially set to send warnings about sites that are not really a problem. The software creates many "false positive" warnings.

That is, of course, a better position to take than to not send warnings when they should (false negatives). But it does mean that if you decide to use those packages, you need to adjust them to your own style of internet surfing.

If you don't, you'll keep getting 'false positive' warning screens. And the software will stop you from doing perfectly normal things (like paying for a Pro subscription). They think it's better to accidentally block good stuff than to accidentally not block bad stuff.

Strange that when I clicked renew now I had the problem, but when I went to www.flickr.com/account/order?cmp=e5 all was well, so I can't think it's Mcfee... but remember in my earlier post I said my credit card was hacked into immediately after renewing lasy year, Flickr must have a bit of a security problem there.

I doubt that. This forum would be flooded with complaints if that was the case.
