MP4 video from Nokia N8 not being processed incorrectly by Flickr

maninvan  Pro User  says:

Hello,

I have posted a Nokia N8 HD video to flickr and the video seems to be encoded incorrectly. It plays 'fast', the Audio track seems correct. It's like a sequence of key frames, with the in-between frames being dropped.

see here www.flickr.com/photos/maninvan/5222194411/
(I will keep it public for a l little while)

The video is mp4 1280x720 25 fps, with 48Khz 129Kbps stereo Audio

Please can you check if flickr is processing this video format correctly?

Thanks

Bill

Hi maninvan, we do have a bug report in for video playing back faster than normal while the audio track plays normally, so we'll add this example to that ticket. Can you please leave this video up in your stream for a while so that the team can get a chance to look at it?

Thanks!

Zyrcster, the problem is perfectly reproducable.
I just came to experience the same problem with an N8 made video.

Do you need more online content for testing?

Hi boostev,

Sure, if you have a video, the more reports we receive the better able we are to escalate the matter, so a link is useful.

Hi Zyrcster, here you go.

As far as I can see the case is identical to the one presented by maninvan above.

Hope native Nokia N8 video's will soon be supported.

Greetings.

Hi!

Just wanted to check in and report that I've got the same problem with videos uploaded from my N8 - videos play fast for the first few seconds, then it's a still image and audio continues to play in normal speed. It's reproducible 100% of the time.

I have tried uploading videos through Pixelpipe directly from the N8, and also tried the Flickr Uploadr app on Windows 7. Same problem on both.

One additional thing I observed (kind-of a workaround until the problem is fixed): if I open a recorded video with the N8 built-in video editor and simply save it again, then the output file from the video editor will be handled correctly when I upload it to Flickr.

Hoping for a fix for that soon ;-)

Thanks! Cheers,
Dennis

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem uploading videos taken on a Nokia N8... The video runs for up to 4 seconds at high speed and then shows a still frame whilst the audio reproduces correctly to the end.

The following are 2 videos that I have uploaded -

www.flickr.com/photos/infinity-club/5354895469/in/photost...

www.flickr.com/photos/infinity-club/5356823416/in/photost...

The following is a Nokia N8 video on Flickr, that is playing correctly.

I hope this helps and that you may be able to resolve this problem soon.

Regards,

I seem to be having this problem with MP4's that were uploaded from my N8 but I also seem to be having this problem with MP4's that were not taken on a N8. Seems to be a MP4 problem in general

Same thing with me. Nokia N8, uploaded using Pixelpipe.

At the same time Pixelpipe also uploaded it to Facebook, Picasa and Ovi Share, and it plays ok on those.

Made two very short videos with my Nokia N8 for the first time and now I uploaded them, experienced the same problem as these other flickr users. Here are the links to my videos which play correctly only for the first 3-4 seconds...

Just want to know if the fix, when one is available, will it fix videos that were uploaded prior to that?

Hi Brxtndwg: My Life in Photos,

Unfortunately, we don't have an ETA when will this issue get resolve and it's very unlikely we will able to correct all the videos uploaded prior to the fix.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

I've just come across this as well - but it's not entirely a Flickr thing.

Same thing happens with Adobe Premiere - you take an MP4 you have recorded from the camera, feed it into Premiere and it for some reason thinks the video is at 500fps (just Google "nokia n8 500 fps").

Is a bit weird, some people report that renaming the extension to mov or avi can fix it (for Premiere that is - doubt that'd fix this problem here at Flickr).

But seems to work fine when using the MP4 with something like Movie Maker from Microsoft.

Weird!

Same old problem, video speeds up in the beginning but sound remains the same. flic.kr/p/9zWWLo Very frustrating, and now it's been FIVE months since the problem was first seen.

I have uploaded videos from my N8 to Youtube and they work just fine. Please fix that already guys, it's embarassing.

Wow, this bug is half a year old and still no solution? I just upgraded to the premium account for this reason! Needless to say I'm rather disappointed flickr can't process my N8 videos. Keeping in mind that to date this is still by far the best camera phone out there, I'm pretty surprised that a bug fix doesn't gain higher priority.

Hi all,

The playback problem with videos taken with Nokia N8 should be resolved now. I've reprocessed all the videos in this topic and they looks fine. If you have uploaded more video before the fix, you can provide the link to the video here, so I can reprocess them for you. Or you can simply re-upload them.

We apologize for the inconveniences this matter might have caused you.
