[fixed] I get an incorrect "That URL you tried to post has been used for abuse"

loupiote (Old Skool)  Pro User  says:

when i credit an artist with his website on one of my photo of his art, with the following text in the description:

Skyline, by Robert Bose - see www.balloonchain.com

flickr tells me:

Hey! That URL you tried to post has been used for abuse on Flickr before. If that's you, stop it! If that's not you, sorry, but you can't post links to it.

i think it's a bug, because this website has nothing to do with any abuse. it's just an artist personal website.

i tried adding dummy characters in front of the domain name, and it trips too, so i assume it's a bad regexp in the flickr test.

But it let you post the link here? Is that normal behavior for barred URLs?

Yes, they are allowed in the Help Forum but nowhere else.

Flickr doesn't allow url shorteners because they hide the actual site link.

true, but in some cases, flickr has a parsing bug causing some links to be garbled / unusable when posted in comments or descriptions (and also in forums, too).

John,

With loupiote's case, there is a bug that we need to fix.

For shortened URLs, we do tend to disallow them from being posted on photo pages and in groups because of previous abuse. Thanks.

Still wish there was an exemption for the blast box. Or at least Flickr short urls for group discussions.

I can imagine it garbling a link if it's just pasted in - does it still garble the link if you make it a proper URL using <a rel="nofollow"> tags?

yes, unfortunately in same cases, yes... :(

I'm seeing the same thing with the following description:

Kerry and I went to check out Dave, rocking out with The Bone Dogs during the 5th anniversary party for Nesting on Main. They sounded great!

Those URLs are suspicious?

Hi kmacgray,

At this time, we have a bug report in for domains bring blocked from posted to comments which don't need to be blocked.

We appreciate your patience until the dev team sorts this out next week.
