FWIW, this problem vanished for some pools (but not others) about a minute after it appeared.

Something we rolled back yesterday managed to sneak its way back into the system.
We're working to get rid of it again now.
Please bear with us, and sorry for the trouble.
[Edit: Only some people seem to see this problem, so it might be appeared fixed for some people and not for others.]
[Edit: Mysterious...]
[Edit: We're looking into it. Please to be bearing with us.]

very1silent, it's still happening for other groups and other people, so we'll keep this thread running for now.
Glad it's cleared up for you though.

Dunstan, thanks for the prompt response. I just saw that the Catloaves pool was empty even though I'd gotten to it by clicking on the group's thumbnail beside a photo that's in the pool. After a millisecond of panic, I decided it must be a bug. I'm the group admin. I don't know whether that's relevant to why some people experience the bug and other doesn't, but FYI just in case.

The problem seems to be a cron job that's skipped a beat for certain groups, and failed to update the pool info.
You should only see the problem for groups you belong to.
We've given our engineers extra sandwiches and a flask of tea, and sent them off to fix it.
Hang tight. I don't have an ETA on the fix, but people are on it.
Thanks.

As I pointed out in my last post (just up there ^), this will happen for all groups you belong to.
There's no need for everyone to report this problem. In fact, there's no need for anyone else to report this problem.
I'll post an update here when it's fixed.
Thanks for being patient.

Maybe this a displeased reaction of (paying) users? It seems Flickr had a lot of bugs during the last weeks...

They should take a few hours to run (but maybe a bit longer).

That's true.
We've got a couple of clean-shaven ones in the office and they're pretty useless. Hairy and helpful, that's how we like them :)

Not only do some of my groups say there are no photos in the pool, some don't have the right number of how many are in the group pool. One of my groups say that there are 23 photos in the pool when I know that there is more than 300 photos in the pool.

Would this also affect the Top Five Contributors to a group pool?
Our top contributor at Photo Face-Off Challenges:
www.flickr.com/groups/face-off/pool/67035509@N00/
Has fallen off the Top Five Contributors at the bottom of the page. Her photos have been in the pool since last June through today, and she reported as the top contributor earlier today. Now she's not even listed, however -- as the link shows -- she is has more photos in the pool than the currently listed top contributor (see bottom of page that is linked).

@zyrcster, I would imagine it would effect everything to do with group pool counts, so that may well include top contributor information.

Update from the Hairy Man:
"The error was due to an automatic data transfer between machines. All data that didn't make it in the transfer was later cleared (e.g. set pool size = 0), but NOTHING WAS LOST."
And confirmation of what zyrcster was asking about:
"Affected counts include top posters, top tags, pool count."
Everything should be back to normal in an hour or two, with all counts being restored to their proper amounts.

I see 16 images in the group, the_moog - what you probably have is the usual problem with new groups not quite being seen in the same way at the same time across the databases (or something like that) yet. Give it a couple of days and it generally sorts itself out.

Try it again the_moog, should be ok now.
This is a problem where we need to do some tuning for new groups so this is less likely. (I'll explain shortly, it's a bit long.)

Is it a new group? New groups sometimes deliver the wrong (outdated) info on and off for a day or so. After that they settle down and behave properly.

If it is a new pool, it will take a day or two for things to settle down.
Give it 24 hours and you should be able to see everything.

Hi- Simple explanation: New groups will show an inaccurate count until an automated pool count cache bumper goes around to each group to reset the number. It sometimes shows 0 for a member/administrator of the group in this state. It shouldn't, and that's something we need to fix. You can point out the group if you wish, and we can force the bump, or it should reset automatically.
A bit more explanation: Flickr uses many caching servers so as to be able to have information ready to send you rather than going to disk each time. One of the things which is cached are these pool counts. We added these automated count "bumpers" for groups that are small and have little activity. Those are the ones where you notice it more, until this process bumps the count for that group.
