Does the 3 free months only apply if I buy Flickr Pro as a gift for someone else, or does the 3 free months also apply if I extend my own Flickr Pro account?
Thanks.

My "Pro" expires within the next month. If I and a friend both buy each other "Pro", will we each get 15 months? And does it matter if the donor or recipient are already "Pro"?

If you buy pro through upgrade, no, but if you buy a gift.... (wink, wink, wink).

Yes, 12 you buy as a gift + the 3 months for the promotion.

Hi :)
is there any way you can tell when a flickr user's pro account is about to run out.?? I would prefer to give the gift to someone whose account is about to expire, rather than to someone who has just renewed theirs, if possible..

Rahul Sadagopan as heather didn't actually say (but did ;-)) above, if you upgrade your account the usual way, then no. But if you purchase a gift of pro and apply the code to your own account, then yes !

Buying yourself a gift account is really uncouth and totally abuses the promotion. Kinda like a store manager/owner cutting out his own coupons and mailing them in to get the rebate.Just plain wrong, next time Flickr may not be so willing to do promotions. Shame, someone is always willing to abuse the system.

What ?
How is the system being abused when staff have hinted that this is what members can do to add a little thank you to their own account ?
If Flickr wanted to, they could easily have made it not work on our own accounts. But it would appear they don't mind if we do.
Of course Flickr will be willing to run more promotions. It's a way to promote the business.
Just a way for Flickr to say thanks...and make some more money ;-)
And this promotion is to mark the first anniversary of the 'gift of Flickr pro'.
Chill a bit and join the party :-)

g.h.vandoorn yes you can.
Same as if they extended their own pro account (or your own)...it'll just tag on the end of their current balance :)
But I think you will only benefit to the tune of three months added to your account if you buy a 'gift of pro', then send them the activation code.
Not too sure if the promotion includes buying for someone the other way ??

I've been waiting to see if the wind bloweth, but since it doesn't, I have a question: why don't these announcements find their way to the international fora? Not just this one, but almost *none* of any importance.
Lots of p.e. Spanish speaking users know nothing of English. Is there no staff for them? Even if only to start the thread as "official", please?

There are blog posts in all languages.
We have Community Managers for German, Portuguese and Korean (who should have started topics) and we're training our Spanish and Traditional Chinese Community Managers. We should be spreading the word better for those languages shortly. French and Italian will come on board early next year.

Of course it's a kick in the ass to miss out on the promotion by any amount of (reasonable) time.
I'd feel exactly the same :(
But where would the line be drawn ?
"Okay, you missed it by an hour, we'll give it to you."
"Hang on, what about me, only a week ago...."
"Oh, I only paid a month ago :("
Etc, etc.....
No matter when the (retrospective) cut off point was set, someone else would be 'missing out'.
No good now anyway, but I was going to suggest that it may have been better to announce the promotion ahead of the start date.
But then many would have been disappointed to know in advance they were going to miss out anyway ;-)

-Jer- No. If you buy it now your friend won't lose anything.
The code can be activated at any time up to one year from purchase (unless this has changed recently).
So you will be fine to send him the gift on Christmas day and if he activates that day, he will still have a year of pro :)
Plus, you get three months of pro too ! (but from the date of purchase I believe).

thekid3 Free accounts can purchase the gift of Flickr.
Maybe ask a family member to create a free Flickr account in order to buy you the gift of pro for Christmas.
Even if they never use the account themselves again, it'll only take them a couple of minutes to do. Or you could do it for them and send them the sign in details, they buy you pro, then delete the account if they wish.
You never know, they might like it and want to stay ;-)

Darn it, I am apart of a forum and alot of the ladies on this were swapping and exchanging christmas gifts. Lots of them were asking for Flickr Pro accounts. They all missed out on this excellent promotion. Ooh well.... I knew they started Christmas gift exchanging a little early!
I am curious if this is a previous promotion, or if there is normally other promotions though out the year for buying a Pro account.

In the beginning, pro account holders were given a free pro account to give to whomever they choose (actually, it might have been two...not sure).
But that was for those that were 'in at the beginning' and is likely to not happen again ;-)
Anyway, that passed by a couple of years ago.
This promotion is to mark the anniversary of the 'Gift of Flickr'. The system introduced to enable members to purchase a gift account in the form of an activation code. Which can be passed on to anyone, account holders or not, at any time up to one year from purchase.
It's a way for members to perhaps pay for a pro account for non contacts, new members to be, or to surprise someone on their birthday or Christmas time.
The old way meant only a specific person could be bought a pro account.
One could upgrade a free account to pro, but had to choose the member (or newcomer) specifically. And in respect of newcomer, an account needed to be created first of all.
Now you buy it and send the activation to whoever you wish to.
The recipient would still need to create a free account, but then apply the gift activation code !
In between the two, I don't recall any other promotions of this nature.
Other than you save a couple of dollars if you purchase two years instead of one :)

Stumblingthrulifewithgrace because your friend already has pro, the link to buy it for them is not there. It only appears in the profile of free account holders.
But the system has changed. Whereas one might have paid to extend or upgrade a specific person from their account, the same link now takes you to the Gift of pro.
For someone else (your friend) you can now only purchase pro this way.
Make the purchase and you will receive an activation code.
Copy and paste this to a Flickr mail to your friend, then they activate it on this page :-)

I'm having problems with buying a Flickr Pro gift. After choosing the length, I'm taken to a Yahoo sign-in page. After filling this form, I'm taken to yet another sign-in page. And then another -- I can't get forward!
It isn't a matter of an incorrect password, because when I test the form with a different password, it notifies me that there's something wrong.

fangars: she needs to go into the following page, whilst logged into her account:
www.flickr.com/account/
She needs to click on 'gifts you've purchased', which will take her here:
www.flickr.com/account/order/gifts/
She then needs to email you the Gift code from that page, or cut and paste it to you if you're on the same machine.
Now you sign in and go to:
www.flickr.com/account/
Click on 'extend your account' or 'upgrade your account' [not sure as I am Pro], which will take you here:
www.flickr.com/account/order/ [you could just go straight here]
Bottom right of that page, click on:
Have you been given a Flickr Gift? 'Activate it here'.
This will take you here:
www.flickr.com/gift/activate/
Paste or type the gift code into the box, and bingo!
You could each just go straight to that last page, but I've given you a routemap so you can find it again.
Enjoy...
...and for those who still don't grasp it, it's cool to buy yourself the gift of Flickr and get the three months free as well as applying the gift to your own account. I'm lucky, my account was to expire in 2 days, so I'm in the promo period, and stumbled across the offer, so I gave myself the gift. : )

I've managed to extend the 12+3 month offer just now, but main criticism would be that it's not obvious that you sign up to the 3 months first and not the other way round, i.e. you should check your account page closely otherwise you'll miss this.
Also within the "extend you account" page, the "activate your account" note isn't obvious. It's placed at the bottom rather than at the top.
Anyhow I'm looking forward to more flickering. Taraa.

saiful k&i when you bought the gift of pro, 3 months are/were added to your own account immediately. The gift doesn't kick in until you, or the recipient, activates the code.
Apart from that....I'm surprised you got the extra three months !
There doesn't seem to be any indication from staff that the offer has been extended. And nothing on the payment pages to indicate it still kicks in.
mikehedge Don't know if you want to risk going through the payment procedure before staff realise someone didn't flick a switch !
