How does one go about getting a free account pass? Are they just given randomly to pro account users?

No, the ones that bought a PRO account before Yahoo bought Flickr got two free accounts to give to whomever they saw fit. The reason was that the prize of the Pro accounts went down after they took over so the ppl who had bought before that had paid quite much more than they needed.
So they got freebies to give away, but with a deadline that ends on july 15th. Who they choose to give them to are entirely up to them... I'm just trying to give them a little hint ;-) A nudge in the correct direction so to speak...

I just want to publicly thank the awsome Michael Ward for doing the insane thing...that is giving me a Pro account. I'm in debt and will try my best to live up to his request for quality photos. So please give it up for da man, Mr. Waaaaaaaard y'all!!

Aww! GREAT! Glad to hear it. I am adding you as a contact and FULLY EXPECT to see some great shots, especially after baby arrives. Yeah, you have a responsibitity as the recipient of the gift you sought to use it to its fullest (even if you didn't get it from me). Michael, you're the coolest!

Btw, I know that he'd prolly never beg him self but forteller too is in desperate need of an Pro account (so he states on his blog). So if anyone else is in the giving spirit he's your man.

Jigggy I was gonna hook you up if nobody else did. So I got forteller's back instead. I gave my other account to Monica De Biase last month, and I have not been disappointed with that decision. Good Luck with that kid o' yours.

switch over to zoto.com and you get 2 gigs for free... Yahoo photos has unlimited memory for uploading, and expect Yahoo's huge revenue to destroy the "pro" thing in some time. Also Google's Hello.com is good.

yes but yahoo does not let you achive in original format, and once you upload you cannot download the original again. As far as i know i can't find any better service out there other than flickr!

Just getting back into photography after a looooooong hiatus and trying to use flickr as a motivator. I don't have anything better than a 2mp camera, but a pro account would encourage me to save up for a digital slr.
