Midnight, Central US time or whatever they call it.
Some arbitrary colonial time, anyway, rather than that of the international date line and recognised World Time standard reference for the start time of all time zones; namely 'Zulu time' or GMT.
And that isn't being anti-american (for once) just bloody sensible. They're only being snarky because they didn't invent it, and that gets up their nose...

The International Data Line is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, about as far away as you can get from the arbitrary center of the universe in Greenwich.

I so hate to tell you this, Brock, but time zones, the Prime Meridian and Greenwich Mean Time were invented in the United States, at the urging of the U.S. government.

Sorry Matt, but Greenwich Meridian is from long before that, and had been recognised as international time zero by sailors for many years before.
1884 was merely the time when you burger monching lot decided to recognise it and adopt it, if you read further. The Meridian was created in 1854 by Astronomer Royal, Sir George Airy. It took you lot a further 30 years to adopt it.
Never mind the fact that the Meridian had been there since 1675, albeit in a less accurately measured version.
Not the same as being 'invented by the US' at all, no no. As usual, you yanks are talent surfing behind us again.
Sad, but true.

Enough with the time zones.
The good news is that we're going to extend the Pro Gift expiration deadline to July 15.
We can resume the time zones conversation closer to that deadline and then I will be able to give you a definitive Midnight Pacific or Central call.
We're going to send out a reminder email to those with gifts remaining soon.

Hey, I want to continue the GMT debate. Drat and tarnation. Stop being so accomodating Heather :-).It's my favorite pet peeve. It's always some US time or another. I wouldn't mind that so much if they could just come up with a standard but nooooo. GMT works for me, I'm not on it myself but UNIX systems has been using it as a default to offset from for years, so I know the CET that I'm on is GMT+1. Easy enough.
You think that's bad? Wait until I get my hands on you, drunk as a Brock in a back alley and tattoo in the spelling of colour and aluminium on your back :-D.

Oh no..not Brock again trying to cling to standards that the old British Empire shoved down the world's throats back in the 1800's. Yeah sure, Greenwich, England is the "natural" center of things, Uh huh.

väcäpinta: Got a better worked in and working system to suggest? Sure, I can go for BMT if that makes your fellow Americans have less of a teenage separation anxiety from the UK. :-P
On an amusing sidenote, in 1947 Prime Minister Clement Attlee commissioned a study on the future use of metric units in the UK. A resulting 1950 report stated that the metric system was a superior measurement system, and would eventually become the norm, and in 1965 the Government announced support for metricating the UK within 10 years.
So they're sort of on their way to improve standards, just...lagging a bit behind in actuating it. Can the US match up to their parents and conform to a time standard at least?
And, I suppose we should move this meaningless rant to another group if we continue. Sorry for hijacking the thread, even if it was already "done".

Thanks for the plug. I've been getting an influx of new members recently so I'm glad they extended the deadline. Here are a few more details who have trouble deciding who they should give the gift of Pro'ness to.
I just want to make sure you all knew about two groups setup to make Pros out of selected free users.
These two groups give users a place to display examples of their work. In my group 'I want a free Pro account - Contest' you choose two(2) photos and put them in the pool. You can also post your pics in a msg [still just two(2) and thumbnails/small please] Pros with upgrades to gift can then browse thru and choose users to gift their upgrades to.
For those who would to upgrade another but have no upgrades left, I've also announced in the 'I want a free Pro account - Contest' group requests for recomendations. To try and cover that need for that third invite. Of course you could also send the user an invite to the group so they could choose and post their own photos.
The second group Make Me Pro has a more formal structure. Pros create themed contests and users submit photos to the contests they qualify for.
While things aren't moving quite as fast as when the upgrades first became available, there are still upgrades being gifted to lucky users.
Users looking for upgrades are welcome to join and submit their photos. And of course we are always looking for Pros who wish to pass along their upgrades to users they wish to recognize.

Vac, sweetie, read the post rather than just ranting.
The fact is that there already exists an international datum for time, it's just that (despite your government being fundamentally involved in deciding to adopt it) your country arrogantly insists that everyone follows the US.
There IS an international standard and it happens to go through Great Britain. Big deal. That is a fact, get over it. This has nothing to do with Colonial times, it is simply a recognised international standard. I only got involved in that fight when Matt (hilariously errroneously) attempted to claim US definition for it. My previous involvement mentioned no countries at all, merely the existance of the standard.
Despite various websites protestations about being truly 'international' they still are too self-centred to consider any time other than their own as a suitable defining time reference.
Frankly, it's ridiculous. I put the 'smilie' in earlier so as to reduce the amount of people I pissed off (ie people that don't know me) but there is none required this time. Why would an international site have any defining time zone as other than that of the recognised international standard of over 120 years.
Bloody ridiculous.

zenok, try here
www.flickr.com/groups/wannabpro/
unless you're engaged in a cunning doublebluff / reverse psychology ploy, trying to persuade someone to give you a free pro account - by being the worst possible person to give one. Saying you want a pro account because you're 'not sure' whether you want one isn't the best motivator, quite frankly.
You dont even have any photos! One of your two favourites is a screengrab. No contacts either.
I suspect that if you want a pro account you're going to have to stump up the cash for it, unless you upload some good photos and start getting yourself known (for the right reasons!) around suitable groups.

I removed my post by myself and I don't know if I really wanna use flickr because I'm not a real photographer... I want to share photos with my family and some friends but not with the community. So I posted some personal stuff for the contest but then thought about sharing these photos and I don't want to share them anymore...
I'm thinking about using flickr as my personal photoalbum for my family... I have uploaded 200 pictures till now but nothing for the community. Sorry but the photos I take I share not with the community... maybe only some photos in the future but only a few when I travel but I think I will only use this service if I really like it and I would like to test the pro account first but flickr doesn't offer a 30 days test phase... I may start sharing pictures in 1-2 months because then I will take many photos with a new digital camera and then I may share pictures with you but before I want to test flickr and I don't have time to enter these contests because I didn't take such photos they are searching for...
Please make me a pro or give me a 30-60 days/1-2 months test phase and I will see if I like flickr and may start sharing pictures then too.

I just wrote 2 private messages... ok... looks like it's a closed community only for the people who share... I'm not the one who will share many photos and I'm not a pro photographer.
And sorry that I tried to get a free pro invitation - I would be happy with a 30 day test phase too but it doesn't exist. And sorry that I tried to tell you why I'm not sharing my photos.

Zenok, you're free to use Flickr in whatever way you want to, but it's not a closed community - meaning that most people (the vast, vast majority of whom aren't pro photographers) share their photos.
I can understand why you don't want to share your family photos, but if you have more than 200 it sounds like you're quite a keen photographer.
And if so, why not take some photos to share with others, maybe get some feedback, some compliments, see how it goes? Then you'll be able to experience more of Flickr and you'll be in a better position to decide whether you need a pro account :)

Time becomes a loop!
End of a 15th. A human will be dumping the remaining invites and removing the code so it's unlikely that it will happen on the stroke of midnight in any time zone.
