[Emailing to blog] Breaks are doubled

Admiraals Weblog  Pro User  says:

When I upload by email to flickr and my blog, all breaks are double.

All breaks now look like this: <br /><br />
It should be (and it always was): <br />

First I thought this was a bug of my Weblog Blogger, but it isn’t.
Flickr is doubling the breaks and not Blogger.

The breaks were never a problem before. A few days/weeks ago it worked just fine. The problem appeared just a few days/weeks ago. I don’t know the exact date.

Flickr converts all linebreaks to a linebreak and a <br />, unfortunately.

If your blogging software also converts linebreaks, you're going to get doubled. I just wound up writing a little post filter that detected the Fickr code and fixed it accordingly.

Lets make myself more clear, because I really think this is a bug. I have used this function of Flickr for months without any difficulties, but a few days/weeks ago, this bug showed up.

Example of the bug

Flickr

www.flickr.com/photos/admiraalsweblog/18580443/
See the text under the photo: Just normal breaks

Blogger

www.admiraal.org/yuser/2005/06/world-press-photo-2005.html
See the text under the photo: Two breaks (white space) = bug

Example of the source code

Flickr:

<div id="description_div18580443" class="photoDescription">
Text text<br />
More text on next line<br />
End of text</div>

Blogger:

<p class="flickr-yourcomment">
Text text<br /><br />
More text on next line<br /><br />
End of text</p>

Is Flickr or Blogger doubling the breaks <br /> ?

In Blogger you have an option called "Convert line breaks". You can set in to Yes/No, but it doesn't make any difference. I really think Flickr is doubling the breaks when they post from Flickr 2 Blogger.
Remember: The Flickr function worked before, without doubling the breaks in Blogger.

Summary
(mail 2 blog =) mail 2 flickr 2 blog

mail 2 flickr = working ok: no double breaks
flickr 2 blog = not ok: two breaks

I have this error also on this blog.

- I send a mail without ANY breaks (Email to blog) from Outlook
- Flickr is breaking up long sentences in short sentences beneath the image. Thats normal, no problem
- Flickr sends it to blogger and then you'll get sundanly two breaks! :(

It didn't work like that in the past.

I found out the following.

First you email2flickr (not email2blog). Then you send the photo and text to your blog manualy (with the Flickr button on top of the photo).
> You don't get double (line)breaks.

- If you mail2flickr + flickr2blog = you get one (line)break after each line
- If you mail2blog = You should get the same, but you're getting double (line)breaks after each line (since June)

Isn't this a bug of Flickr?

A workaround for the bug:

Add this line of code in your CSS (in your blogger template).

--

br {letter-spacing: 1em;}

--

It will kill all white space when you have a double line break. This will make the Flickr text under the image look good.

This workaround works for IE, but it does nothing in Firefox. Is there a workaround for Firefox? Is there a way to supress the second in firefox?

I am having the same problem. E-mail -> flickr -> moving type is areally great feature and it works really well. However, these double line break really suck!

The above work around isn't all that great, because it also removes intended line paragraph breaks and doesn't work in Firefox.

Any ideas?

I know (in Blogger at least) there is a setting where you can turn off converting line breaks.

Can you do that in MT?

this '' in emailed discriptions problem was not properly dealt with since it was noticed in june 2005. It is extremely annoying editting out al these double linebreaks if you want to keep you Blog look proper. Being a Blogger user and checking NO to conversion of linebreaks is not solving the problem. Please staff help us out here.
