No, all my 'nos' still apply.

I'm seeing that same problem. My inbox was flooded with notifications. I turned it off again, and now it's turned itself back on.

"today i started to receive email notifications for new contacts.
this was OFF in my account, it and it turned itself ON."
YES! Mine turned itself on as well.
(I haven't received any notifications yet, because no one's added me in the last 48 hours or so.)

I've had that set to "NO" for several years (I'm sure it was set to "YES" at some point, back when I first started my account and I was testing all the features of the site).
Kinda makes you wonder what other settings around Flickr are going to change for themselves.

Could this background change be related to the banner asking us to confirm our email address?

Interesting question. Since staff never answered my question in that thread about what would happen if I ignored the message, I've continued to ignore the question about whether my email address is correct. :-)
But no, I doubt that it's related... Who knows?...

Kinda makes you wonder what other settings around Flickr are going to change for themselves.
This is one of the reasons the AFM group exists and gives advice such as "add a tag to each photo that indicates what safety flag you have applied to it".
We've had members reported to Flickr after their safety flags got changed. Restricted to safe and things like that. In a couple cases, their accounts have been saved because they could demonstrate that the knew what they were doing (the tag) and that they had not changed the setting themselves.

That's great advice.
Of course, the setting here wouldn't have quite the serious consequence that a safety flag change would have... It's just irritating. :-/
I've changed mine back to "NO" and it has stuck for a couple of hours now. :-)
(Also, note to staff: why do the buttons shout? "NO" "YES" "POST NOW", etc., are all in ALL CAPS, commonly called "shouting" on the internet.)

It makes buttons look a lot neater if the text is all the same size - no dropping below the baseline, etc.
Lowercase is easier to read, but I think that applies more to sentences/paragraphs than simple words.
Allcaps is very common for things like buttons in interface design

Thanks for that clarification. It makes perfect sense (especially the part about the baseline).
EDIT: ... Though there's plenty of room in Flickr's buttons for g, y, j, etc. to drop below the baseline and still be in the button. :-)

My pleasure.
RE: your edit - vertically centring the text in a button would also be an issue. Imagine Yes/No/Maybe buttons - yes and no would look all skewy.

Hello everyone,
Seems like a naughty gremlins changed your setting overnight. Thank you for the report and we will look into it.

I'd try looking for the gremlins in a cupboard with the Reply links.

Howdy everyone!
Thanks for the reports, we definitely made a mistake here and a small group of users had their contact notification email preference enabled yesterday. We're working hard to rectify everything now and you should see these emails cease shortly.
(And just to mention without getting too far into the weeds, this is not associated with the email verification banner. Just a coincidence there!)

I just started getting email notifications of people making me a contact..........19 hours after the staff said they'd start looking into this problem. Come on guys.........Flickr just switches a long standing "NO" to a "Yes", and keeps on doing it, and you can't find the problem?

Just reset it to no; it should stay that way. I reset mine and haven't had any issues since.

Curious - when someone sends an email to flickr help, is there some software detecting keywords and sending out form replies?
Only I sent an email explaining that my settings were set so as to not receive emails - that they always had been and that I hadn't changed them - but that daily emails were now arriving. I explained that I'd checked my settings and that it hadn't fixed the problem.
I received a reply telling me that I could change my settings to receive email notifications as often as I like and advising me that if I wasn't receiving them I could maybe check my spam folder.
No hint that it was a known-issue - just some advice on how to solve the complete opposite of my issue.
