This Is How To Access Flickmail

RubyMae says:

If you no longer see the flickrmail envelope, you are browsing using flickr's new navigation design.

To find your flickrmail in the new design - look at your avatar in the upper right hand corner. If there is little white badge with a number on the avatar, then you have unread flickrmail. The number on the little badge indicates how many new flickrmail you have. To get to your flickrmail, click on the little badge.

Alternatively, if you hover your mouse over the avatar in the upper right, a drop down menu will appear. Choose "flickrmail" from that menu.

If you do NOT see a little badge with a number on the avatar in the upper right, then there is NO new flickrmail.

You can't. Everyone will be getting the new navigation. It is a replacement of the old, not an alternate view.

There should be. People in the beta test where using their phone and were able to get their flickr mail without a problem.

I've used it on my iPad without issue.

At any rate, maybe you want to post this in the Official New Navigation bug thread linked at the top of this forum.

When you access the site from your phone (I'm only talking about the full version - I haven't used the mobile version as I find it incredibly lacking) the nav bar disappears as you scroll down. There were bugs with it getting stuck in the middle of the page, and covering comment boxes when it stayed visible, so they changed it.

Yes...but did they listen to, or even act upon, the replies I wonder. We will never know....but we have our suspicions....

Flickr, unfortunately, has a very bad habit of saying things like "We'd loooove to hear from you" but very rarely seem to act upon the suggestions/comments made except for obvious bugs.

Unfortunately, Flickr seems to spend it's time 'improving' things rather than solving the problems it already has like the payment system/upgrades/renewals etc.(Is the payment system Yahoo? Whoever it is, they really need to sort their problems out), and the many problems good people like you reply to daily in this forum.

"Unfortunately, Flickr seems to spend it's time 'improving' things rather than solving the problems it already has like the payment system/upgrades/renewals etc"

We're in agreement there.

Aside from the payment system, there are several longstanding bugs that Flickr's never been able to (or willing to) fix. I've voiced my opinion several times in the Flickr Ideas group that I wish Flickr would focus all their devs on these bug reports and get them fixed before introducing new features.

But really, if you have feedback about the new navigation bar, why not post in the official topics:
www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157632226988165/ ?

I can confirm that changes were made as a result of user feedback in beta testing. Mystery solved.

Flickr, unfortunately, has a very bad habit of saying things like "We'd loooove to hear from you" but very rarely seem to act upon the suggestions/comments made except for obvious bugs.

Nonsense. Here's a link to ideas and suggestions that have been implemented, often as a result of feedback from members. I suggested every FAQ have a permalink to make them easier to link to, that was implemented and now every FAQ has its own permalink.

Flickr is a business, not a democracy. If you don't like it you're free to take your business elsewhere. Oh actually you have a free account so you're not paying for a service anyway.

The number is a very small digit, in the upper right corner of your buddy-icon-in-the-upper-right-corner-of-the-page. It's gray and very hard to see.

I'll send you a Flickrmail. Watch for the notification number to pop up.

"I received Flickr mail, but there was no indication that I did."

When I get a Flickrmail, there's an indicator on the upper-right avatar:

Flickrmail Indication

(Ignore the "2", it's part of the buddy icon.)

The "1" in a tiny box at upper right is the notification that I have unread mail.

Just in case, there's a "1" next to "Flickrmail" in the drop down menu.

It was beta tested (I participated) and the majority of beta testers liked the new mail notification. Flickr also listened to the feedback in the beta group and made some tweaks. (I was not in the majority that liked the change; i thought it was too hidden and the notification was not obvious enough.)

Not to be pedantic, but use math? If you know how many Flickrmails you have that are unread, and then the number changes... you have new mail.

For instance I have 129 unread right now. If the number changes to 130 (or more) I know I have new Flickrmail.

Perhaps a better request/idea would be a "Mark all as read" option - then you would only have the number if you did actually get a new fmail.

It's the same number of clicks to access flickr mail now as it was the old way: hover over your icon in the upper right and then click on flickr mail.

If there is unread mail, there will be a little badge on that icon - click on the badge and you'll be taken straight to flickr mail.

Yes, it had a number superimposed over the envelope. The number showed how many unread Flickrmails you had. Just like this one does.

i thought it looked different when a NEW mail had landed, vs how it looked after i opened the mailbox (even if i still had unread mail).

in any case, from a usability point of view, i don't really care about how many old unread messages i purposely left unread. i'm interested to know if a new message has landed in the box since last time i opened it.

e.g. same as the FB notifications that shows you if new notifications have arrived since last time you checked, and NOT how many unaccessed notifications you have had since the beginning of time.

There *was* a number, beside the mail icon. But no, the envelope didn't change if you went to Flickrmail and then left with unread mail. My envelope was always yellow. (Too many invite-only group requests... hah.)

Try opening Flickr using a different browser. That may allow you to dismiss the notice.

Otherwise, try disabling all add-ons and ad-blocking software, then restarting your computer. The reason you can't dismiss it may have more to do with your browser add-ons than anything else.

So, you're saying it doesn't place you in the comment box on the photo, where you can then reply to the comment? (Nothing about this has changed in the new UI, by the way, so it's an unrelated problem.)

What happens when you follow RubyMae's instructions? (There is no envelope.) Or do you mean that you are clicking something in an email notification? Nothing in the UI has changed email notifications.

When I hover over my buddy icon the drop down menu appears. But when I try to click flickrmail the drop down menu disappears as soon as I move the mouse. What am I doing wrong?
