we are being stalked by fetishists. any other stalking victims?
|
|
hey ho.
we are repeatedly getting disgusting flickrmails and comments from a neck fetishist. flickr-staff is informed, using "report abuse" button and recently even being offered a special email adress for this certain case.
quote:
[removed by admin]
we blocked lots of his accounts in those last months, but we are perfectly aware that he can easily re-sign up for another account and continue his game. well, guess. this is what he does.
by the time, we found people being or having been stalked by exactly this person, who even gave up their flickr because of him.
a hopefully helpful idea of someone else was to create a group for screenshots of their mails and comments. each one containing a link to block these people. probably, a group like that would encourage even more people to do that, but i can imagine that making it public could relieve the victims on the other hand, adding ridculousness.
do you know any better solution? i highly welcome any idea!
otherwise, i'll probably create that group soon. please help us posting your screenshots, then! let us make these guys public!
flag and block them all.
NOTE: please delete ANY personal information from your screenshots like bookmarks, screennames, cookieswap names, whatever, to protect your privacy!

To me, some of that information should be edited out. Also, I am not sure if creating a group about this will be accepted.

Obviously block the person and you have already reported abuse.
Be aware though that this is a hot topic in that many women have had this or similiar mails and flickr are aware of it, they recently removed an associated group that advocated hanging women and I wouldn't be suprised if they where liasing with law enforcement agencies on the matter
I haven't searched, but ther may be another thread about this with further advice....

thanks for your reply! :)
what specific parts should be edited out, then? i was careful writing this leaving away every personal detail, but still wanted to show the complete thing, but i welcome every kind of tips!
and inhowfar might a group like that be not accepted? i was scared about the groups these people belonged to! seemingly dead nudes hanging around in sleeping rooms. i guess there is no big deal of care or control about groups.

I think that creating a group for victims of stalkers would be counter productive.
It could show the people that are harassing you where to are & even introduce them to new people to harass.

Actually, there's plenty of care and control of groups. Several infringing groups have been deleted, and there is a new system of 18+ filtering for groups.
The answer, as always, is for users to report those who break the rules by using the Report Abuse link, which conveniently appears on every single Flickr page.

Creating the group could even be seen as harassment in itself, you're not supposed to "fingerpoint", as they've already said. Report it and let Flickr deal with it, rather than encouraging any sort of vigilante behaviour/hysteria

yes, as i said, we have been using that "report abuse" button A LOT until we even got a special emailadress for enbabling flickr staff to have an eye on this certain case.
but still, the mails have to be found, clicked on, and finally read again before kowing this is him again and being able to reportt abuse AGAIN. being scared everytime when opening the inbox is not very pleasant, is it?
and thanks afor the info that groups have been deleted! didn't know that! thank you, michaelsmith for this info, thank you, flickr staff for deleting! =)

@kiwi_kirsch - it sounds like you're already getting more than the usual amount of help from Flickr staff in dealing with this - probably better to rely on their advice than on the advice of the rest of us, who can't see in behind what's going on.

Use a new instance of Report Abuse each time you get a threatening message. And do it from within the FlickrMail message you get, do not use a previous case to tell us about it. Simply go to the bottom of the page and click Report Abuse.
Thanks

Are you using any particular tags that might be drawing them in? I have some photos of my son up and Istupudly had them tagged: kid, child etc
I started to get weirdos leaving messages on those pictures. I banned them and deleted the tags and now I no longer get them.

@jaqian: no tempting tags.. :(
@Lú_: that is absolutely true. i highly appreciate staffs efforts (just gratefully mailed kevin before i came back to the forum), but still there is nothing they _can_ really do about it, even if they _liked_ to. neither is there any technical solution to just prevent those people from newly signing up again and again after having been blocked again and again, nor should there be a legal basis as long as we do not report this guy to the police (as far as i know- do not take that for granted).
another flickr friend had the idea of creating a group for those things, and i started this topic just to get common feedback if that is a good idea. i thought it was, but i probably won't do it anymore.
thank you all very much, and thank you, flickr staff for your patience and your efforts!
[edit after six weeks: just corrected an embarrassing grammar mistake. oops ;) ]

I'd like to echo Chrisser's post, where she questions whether the subject of this forum should be edited. I myself was searching for assistance on Tags, and stumbled into this thread. I was both shocked and disappointed on seeing that a pro-member felt that it is not sufficient to state that there are those out there who create abuse and willingly cause discomfort, but it was necessary to quote in full an example of such abuse, complete with graphic sexual and sadistic comments. The subject is distasteful, and should be dealt with. But I would be grateful if this thread were edited for the sake of propriety and decency - on grounds of abuse.

I created a group for people to upload pictures of fashion corsets, but quickly it became full of fetish and tasteless tranvestites and nude pic
people dont even read the rules before submitting a photo to the pool
because I was the admin, I also got many nasty messages and people with porn trying to add me as friends, *yuck
its really dissapointing that flickr has been infested with this kind of people

@_lorelei
Just ban anyone from the group posting that crap, eventually they'll get the message.
